Christmas family traditions to do with a 15 month old

by purelytwins

Now that Madison is older I feel it is a good time to start creating Christmas family traditions.

I love finding ways to spread the Christmas cheer with her. I took some of my family traditions from my childhood mixed with some of Gary’s.  I just love this time of year and now treasure it even more being a mom.

I put together a video and a list of the Christmas traditions we are starting this year and a few more that we plan to add each year as she gets older. I know Madison won’t really remember these moments but I will.

Here are 8 Christmas family tradition ideas that work well with toddlers.

Thank you for watching.

Great ideas for fun family Christmas traditions to do with a toddler. Perfect time to start new family traditions on Christmas with this Night Before Christmas, making and eating Santa's cookies and more.

I must say Miss Madison had a blast for the most part with doing these activities with her momma.

I can’t wait to continue to do them each year because I have a feeling she will look forward to doing them.

Simple and fun family tradition with a toddler is letting them help decorate the Christmas tree.

1- Decorate Christmas tree and house.

Madison kept wanting to take off the ornaments instead of putting them on. And Jax thought the ornaments were food.

2- Sing Christmas carols

Madison just looked at me funny the whole time, but she does like hearing me sing. Sometimes she even dances. Of course I can’t seem to get that on video… yet.

3- Make sugar cookies for Santa

Madison loves being a helping hand in the kitchen. She didn’t like the waiting part of the cookies baking.

4- Taste sugar cookies

By far Madison’s favorite part of creating family traditions.  We made our plantain sugar cookies.

5- Read the Night Before Christmas

She loves story time.  This is a long story but for the most part she sits patiently while I read.

6- Do a family Christmas card

We did our family picture a few weeks ago and just sent them out. We didn’t do this last year so I was excited to send one out this year.

7- Make a birthday card for Jesus

I look forward in the years to come have her write the card.

8- Set out a plate of cookies for Santa with a note

Hopefully there will be cookies left for Santa. Little Miss Madison really likes them.

Other ideas that I hope to incorporate in the years to come: Christmas morning pjs, driving around to see Christmas lights, watching classic Christmas movies, going see Santa and making something special for Christmas morning (this year I am thinking donuts).

Whether you do all of them (or more) or just a few things, I hope you enjoy this holiday season.

I hope these ideas get you excited to start making traditions and memories with your kids this holiday season.  Both Gary and I had wonderful memories of growing up with our families holiday traditions so we hope to see Madison someday doing these traditions with her family several years from now.

Such a sweet post. My daughter, Hannah, loved seeing Madison. I think she wanted some of those cookies too. Gonna make some of the teddy grahams. Merry Christmas!

Whoops. I meant I will be making the gingerbread men. I guess I have cookies on the brain. Maybe I’ll make both. 🙂 Better get in the kitchen.
