We enjoyed bread growing up. We weren’t huge bread people but we did enjoy it. One of our favorite breads was sourdough, especially from Carrabas restaurant. Bread and olive oil and we were happy little campers.
We received request for more savory recipes, and this past week we were browsing pinterest and saw dinner rolls everywhere. Which made sense as dinner rolls are a staple of family dinner celebrations like Christmas.
Some meals just need a good slice of bread to wipe all the yummy goodness, in our case tahini!

You could say they are on point.
How to make garlic rolls that are gluten and grain free
We used arrowroot starch in this recipe but you can use tapioca. The starch provides a soft, tender chew.
In addition we did 1/2 tsp parsley and rosemary to be our herb flavorings to go with the garlic powder. You could simply use 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning.
We used one egg in this recipe and have not tested it with a flax gel to make it vegan.
For those that cannot get or have plantains you can try using cooked yucca root or parsnips.

Plantain chewy garlic dinner rolls. Gluten and grain free.
Easy healthy garlic rolls made from just 6 ingredients. No flour bread rolls. These dinner rolls are made from plantains. You will no longer need to buy store bough dinner rolls as these rolls are tasty and made in just 15 minutes.
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Cook Time: 15 minutes
- Total Time: 20 minutes
- 7 oz (200 grams) plantain – about a heaping 1 cup sliced plantains
- 10 tablespoons arrowroot
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon rosemary
- 1 tablespoon gelatin (red can)
- Olive oil * for glaze
- Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Blend plantain, coconut oil, egg and spices in blender.
- Pour batter into bowl and hand stir in arrowroot one tablespoon at a time.
- Scoop dough onto baking sheet.
- Bake for 5 minutes.
- Remove from oven and spread a light layer of olive oil on top and sprinkle with more spices if desired.
- Place back in oven and bake for 10 more minutes.
- Serving Size: makes 9 garlic rolls
