Last week we got you hooked on pizza for breakfast now it’s time for pizza for dessert!!  Why not?! 🙂

And you probably realize that our dessert pizza is not your average recipe. We kept the recipe clean.

Clean?  Yes! Clean in the sense it is homemade and made from mostly real ingredients, except of course chocolate chips. Those are for fun.

We knew we wanted to create a fun pizza recipe that was sweet but not too sweet for you to enjoy. You deserve a little something sweet after a long day of work, right?

We went back and forth a few times on what exactly we wanted to do with our idea of a dessert pizza. We kept changing our minds on flavors…toppings…etc. Finally, we came to a conclusion – a chocolate dessert granola pizza with a rich velvety cream! Yes, we put granola on our pizza. Why? Because we wanted that little crunch and texture.

We are calling this a dessert pizza, but honestly you can enjoy it for breakfast. A great reason to have chocolate in the morning.

A real food low-sugar dessert pizza recipe. Made without gluten and grains.

Haha!  Who are we kidding?  We still need our brownies and cookies. We are the Purely Twins aka dessert lovers.

But it is nice to have a different option 😉

This was our first time making our beloved plantain bread – chocolate. It has been something we’ve always wanted to do. Finally got around to doing it! Why did we wait so long?!?

The crust is soft with a rich, creamy cashew frosting that melts in your mouth followed by an explosion of different flavors and toppings.  We’re getting hungry just thinking about this treat!

If you aren’t a fan of granola on top of your pizza… shame on you…  Just kidding! Like most of our recipes you can top this chocolate pizza crust with any of your favorite toppings or sauces.

Make the crust out of our parsnip bread  and omit the chocolate chips and use raw cacao nibs and omit the sweetener in the cashew cream and up the vanilla. #winwin

How is the crust chocolate? There is no cocoa or anything but plantains, coconut oil and eggs. Did I miss it? Love your “regular” plantain breads – this would be a nice twist!

Thanks for catching that, just updated recipe. But we added 2 tbsp cocoa to the bread.

Oh man this had me drooling first thing in the morning! I love all of your solutions to pizza – who knew that ingredients like plantain could be used so readily?? I didn’t! Great to learn, thank you!

I have not tried dessert pizza, but I am sure I would be a fan.
I would probably make mine tropical inspired, with some coconut cream, pineapple, and lime.
Mmmm! Delicious as always ladies, thanks for the inspiration.

Will canned sweet potatoe work for the plantain? Also, I am allergic to eggs:( any suggestions

purelytwins January 23, 2015 - 9:01 am

green unripe bananas would probably do better than sweet potato. and you can try flax gel as egg replacement

Jona January 24, 2015 - 6:20 pm

Wow! I just made this and it’s amazing! We can’t have egg so I used the flax gel egg substitute and it worked fine. Also- I used macadamia nuts because they are soft and don’t require soaking and it worked great! Do you think that is still okay regarding sny sugar content? I also baked the crust in a round 9″ cast iron skillet and it worked great. This is really a great recipe and I can’t thank you enough for what you do. You’ve made me- and my 8 year old- very happy with this recipe. 🙂

purelytwins January 25, 2015 - 11:20 pm

Jona so happy to hear you enjoyed the recipe 🙂 and that flax gel worked!! Enjoy!
