Madison: 2 months

by purelytwins

It feels like yesterday that I was giving our 6 week update. Now here we are at 2 months!! Madison technically doesn’t turn 2 months until tomorrow, but that is Thanksgiving day so I decided to share it a day early. She has grown so much. She definitely doesn’t look like a newborn anymore.

Some of you have been asking about my post partum update and how I am doing. I plan to give a more formal update soon. Today I hope you enjoy reading more about Madison’s progress and seeing her 2 month update video.

I can’t get over looking back at her newborn photos and seeing how much she has changed! Unbelievable she was once that small 😉 I must say things are definitely getting better over here. All of you were right — to hang in there–things will get better. Thank you for your advice, tips and support!

Madison 2 month update

Week 5 was a tough week. Not gonna lie. I am happy it’s over. She was going through a leap according to the Wonder weeks app. A great app btw for those interested in kid development.

It was so hard to please Madison that week. Some days nothing seemed to interest her to help stop the crying. So hard on mom. She also seemed to nurse almost every hour one day. That day was exhausting. But on the bright side that week she slept better at night! I take my small victories.

She always puts up a good fight the first time we set her down for bed after her nighttime routine. At first she seems like she is drowsy and falling asleep but as soon as you move her eyes pop right open. Sneaky little girl. She will be wide awake for a good 30 minutes or longer sometimes.  So we sit there and continue to hold her and play some white noise in hopes she starts to get tired again. But after I cannot feel my arm from her falling asleep on it that she usually sleeps well. And for the middle of the night feedings usually around 11pm or midnight and 3-4 am (although currently I am trying to drop this one, so far it’s going well) she goes right back to sleep.

Most mornings she is up between 6-7am and ready to go for the day.

I love my mornings with her.  I am usually a morning person so I treasure our mornings together. Apparently Madison likes to sleep a little extra on mommy after her morning nursing. I absolutely love it when she raises her arms up and stretches.

Gary usually sneaks in the nursery to say hi before heading off to work. Madison just loves hearing his voice. She always stops what she is doing and listens to him.

The 5th week also brought more smiles. So many smiles!! They make me happy even if they are technically not at me just yet. I know it will be soon (side note: now at 8 weeks she is looking more at you and smiling!!)

It’s funny because it seems like a light went off and everything just started to click. I felt like everything all of a sudden just changed for the better. I have read, and heard from friends, that between 6-8 weeks things just get better quickly. And it’s so true.

She loves snuggling with daddy on the weekends.

Week 6 was a little bit easier compared to week 5.

That week she started to sleep much better at night. One night at 3am she decided, at her middle of the night nursing, that she wanted to party. She was wide awake and didn’t really fall back to  sleep as well as she normally does. I was a little tired so it was a hard hour for me.

I love spending quality time with Madison each morning. I treasure those moments even when I feel like a zombie.

Weeks 7 and 8 things really started to come together. I am feeling more comfortable with things. These two weeks Madison really started to SMILE and recognize faces and voices better. I must say after all that hard work at the beginning (with little sleep and doubts I am doing things right) I adore seeing her smile. Her personality is starting to develop.

She loves to be moving. I guess just like her mom. She loves to be doing something. And really loves to be held upright over your shoulder so she can see the world.  Her “witching hour” is anywhere from 4pm to 9pm. Each day is different it feels like. We’ve been trying to start her bedtime routine at 6:30ish give or take and that sometimes helps.

Her hair has slowly grown since her birth. Mostly in the back of her head. #thathair

Breastfeeding has been going well.  She has gotten a little fussy at the breast at some of the nursings. She starts going crazy. I haven’t really figured out why yet, but I think it is when my breast milk flow is slow. She gets impatient and starts to get frustrated. Eventually it all works out.

I am still pumping about 2-3 times a day. We breast milk bottle feed her once or twice a day. It’s usually at night so Gary (or Michelle) can see her and bond with her. It’s usually an average of 7 nursings a day starting between 6-7am and usually the last nursing is at 7pm or so. She usually wakes up around midnight or 1pm to nurse again and sometimes again around 4, but we are working on dropping that one like I mentioned in the video.

Finally around 7-8 week mark she started to like bath time. The first few weeks she disliked it and would cry the whole time. Now she smiles and has a great time in the water. I absolutely love the Puj Tub for giving her baths. So simple and easy to use!

Her sleep continues to get much better. From around 6-7 weeks it really started to get better where she was going about 4-5 hours at night in between nursings. #happymom

She was going down pretty easy after 7pm when we were done with her nighttime routine but this past week she has been fighting going to sleep. It makes me wonder if I should try putting her to bed later like 9pm or so. Or do I keep trying the earlier bed time?

During the day she goes anywhere from 2 1/2 hours to 3 in between nursings (some days 4 hours, but that is rare).  Her daytime naps are different each day.  Sometimes she can sleep 2-3 hours or even as short as 30 minutes. More like cat-naps. It’s really a mix with her. I never know what the day is going to bring me.

She naps anywhere during the day, from napping on me to carseat to rock-n-play. I haven’t put her down to nap yet in her crib, that day is coming. To be honest, I have been putting it off. I know I should be doing it, but I like her near me.

I try to put her on a schedule but we’ve yet to really stick to it. I know she is still very young, so I am not too worried as I know as she gets older we can figure out the whole schedule thing.  I try to follow the baby wise recommendations but haven’t  been too good with it. Like I mentioned in the video, we hope to start putting her to sleep in her crib here soon. Any tips?

She has been doing amazing with tummy time. She holds her up for so long now. And is still loving to roll over to one side (which she started to roll to one side around 5 weeks!!). When she is on her back she keeps wiggling her legs and arms as she wants to roll back over so much. Wild one I tell ya!

Cloth diapering is going well. I am loving it. I’ll have to film a complete update on that soon. But overall I am still doing what I gave on my last cloth diaper update with just a few changes.

Right now she loves to be naked!!  Luckily she has a cute butt so I don’t mind 🙂

Other news: Gary and I went out for the first time for dinner without Madison. Auntie Michelle babysat her while Gary’s parents took us out to dinner. It was nice, but honestly by the end of the meal I missed her.

She had her 2 month doctor’s checkup yesterday and did great. She is one healthy baby.

She now weights 10lbs 4oz and height is 22.25 inches. Growing like crazy. She is still fitting into 3 month clothing. For cloth diapers she is wearing newborn sizes still (getting tight) and x-small and size one covers.

Love this little face so much! I am looking forward for her to experience her first Thanksgiving tomorrow.

My 2 month post partum update

I am doing much better compared to the first month where I was a walking zombie. And still recovering from labor. My body weight got back down quickly but my overall recovery did not. And that is okay with me. I wasn’t looking to get completely healed in a few weeks. That is just unrealistic and frankly it was not my top priority.

I have lost a lot of strength and muscle mass.

Don’t get me wrong I do eventually what my old body back in terms of strength and endurance but I am not in a major rush which I will touch on more soon.  I will have more fitness and body after baby update soon for those that are interested in my journey.

Overall, I am adjusting to our schedule. I’m trying to balance everything out and taking it one day at a time. There are some days when I feel like I got nothing done. Being a working mom I can feel torn. It is hard. But I am grateful I do get to work from home.

Every single day I look at Madison and count my blessings. I am so honored to be her mom and so in love with her!! She touches my heart in ways I never thought possible. I am looking forward to seeing her continue to grow.

What month was a turning point for you and your child?

Any tips for transitioning to the crib?

My son was due when Maddison was born but arrived 5 weeks early so its useful comparing their development as his corrected age is the same as hers! My little guy is super dinky at just 8.5lbs as he also had to have major heart surgery at 9 weeks for a heart defect as well as being early so he struggled to gain weight in the early weeks. Can’t wait till he is over 10lbs! I can remember him having a rocky week in week 5 due date, or 10 for his birth date, so believe me I can relate to the crying! We bed share at the moment as he seems to need that added contact after being through so much, but hoping to get him in his crib in the New Year so will look out for tips from you! x

Laura her little guy sounds like a champ!! I am sorry to hear about his heart surgery, but I am glad things are starting to get better!! He will be over 10lbs soon, I just know it 🙂 xo

Lori she is just adorable! I am at week 5 right now with Grace and it’s been a fussy one but certainly not as rough as those first 3 weeks! At least I don’t feel like I need to be institutionalised anymore 😉 I feel like I have lost do much muscle mass too/ I mean seriously, who stole my butt? There is a book called Save Our Sleep by Tizzy Hall (what’s with the name??) that has some great stuff in it, the full routines she suggests are a little full-on and inflexible for me but her nighttime routine works a treat. We start at 5.30pm with a small feed, 6pm bath, 6.15ish until 6.30 is ‘play’ time then her final feed at 6.30 with the goal to have her in the cot asleep at 7pm. She calls this getting in the 7 o’clock bus. We just started and Grace went straight from 4hrly feeds during the night to sleeping 7pm-1am, feed at 1-2am then sleeping through again until 5.30! I feel like a new woman!
Anyway, thanks for sharing, it’s a joy to follow.
X Shan

Time flies so fast! My baby boy is 2 months tomorrow and I cannot believe how much he has grown and changed in such a short amount of time. I know what you are talking about with the sleep thing, it was unpredictable for us in the beginning and he was hard to settle, but things have improved quite a lot now he’s older.

purelytwins November 30, 2014 - 8:42 am

thanks Jemma!! yay for sleep getting better for us both 😉 thinking of you!!
