Gluten-free, grain-free fig newton bread recipe using real ingredients.
Happy Wednesday luvs!
I started my morning with a little yoga followed by breakfast and Starbucks coffee. Everything needed for a perfect morning, right? haha. Lori and her boys will be traveling back today and I have a doctors appointment. Hopefully this doctor will have some new insight to what is going in with my legs.
While I sit and wait at the doctor’s, please enjoy today’s recipe! This recipe is perfect for all fig lovers.
It is funny for us to think about how much we love figs. The obsession started about 6 years ago. We both remember the day when we were first introduced to FIGS. We were selling our baked goods at the farmers’ market and one of our regular customers brought us figs. She asked us if we have had them before and we answered no.
It was love at first bite.
How did we go for so long without eating them? How did we ever survive without figs in our life?
As much as we love figs they are pricey.
But worth every penny!
Gluten free, grain free paleo fig newton bread
Growing up Lori enjoyed fig newton cookies with our second older sister. I, Michelle, could easily say no to a fig newton. I would try them from time to time but just could not get into the taste like Lori did. She loved them.
Anyone else like fig newton cookies growing up?
Today we are returning to our childhood and remaking Fig Newtons the way they always should have been 😉 … as a warm, soft, full of flavor fig bread! Fig newton bread – yes!

Fig newton bread, a healthy alternative to the classic fig newton cookie.
We could not wait to eat this bread. Well, Lori couldn’t wait. I was good and just smelled it, haha as I am still avoiding eggs.
But the smell alone was heavenly!
If you love figs, you must make this bread!! And warning – you won’t want to share it 😉 It’s delicious!!

I LOVE figs!!! I was at Costco the other day and saw a huge bag of dried figs (I know, not as good as fresh, but still) and SOOO wanted to buy it but I’m on the 21 Day Sugar Detox so no figs for me for five more days! You know I’ll be going back to Costco and buying that big a** bag as soon as I’m done though 😉
you will love this recipe 🙂 good luck with your cleanse
I just wanted to drop a note and say THANK YOU for making my life of paleo eating better, and easier both for me and my boyfriend. Your recipes are incredibly simple to make for a novice cook like me, and so healthy and delicious. I love how you dont label your recipes necessarily as paleo or something else, exactly my philosophy – its just good food! Your almond butter bread replaced our bread needs completely, and i want to try making the plantain bread soon (need to buy them first) . I have just bought some figs and will make this bread tomorrow evening. Will let you know how it turned out. Question: you think I can use thawed frozen figs (i frooze them last time i bought more than we could eat) for the puree part of this recipe?
Mitra thank you so much for commenting!! It means the world to us. And so happy you are enjoying our recipes 🙂 Yes I think thawed figs should work. It might make the bread a bit more moist and cooking time might be longer, but should be okay.
I made this tonight.. it is AMAZING! I couldn’t help it and ate a piece after dinner.. Thank you so much for this recipe.. I guess I can add some honey or more maple syrup next time to please a bit more to my boyfriend’s sweet tooth, but the sweetness level is perfect for me! Can’t wait for breakfast! 🙂
wahoo!! so happy to hear this!! enjoy the bread 🙂
Oh YUM! I lovvved fig newtons as a kid and this bread looks so beautiful!
Thanks Kat!!
That is so up my street, I’m obsessed with figs and quite like them with tahini, do you think the bread recipe would work with tahini as well?
Laura yes tahini should be okay, the overall texture might be slightly different. But figs and tahini are so good!
Nice idea! We call fig newtons fig rolls in the UK. They are seen as a ‘healthy’ cookie here, and my mum only really let us have those or digestives (graham crackers) when we were kids. I don’t really like biscuits/cookies that much- I always wanted chocolate instead! I don’t even really like fresh figs but I bet these would be amazing with peaches, nectarines, damsons or plums. Hope you got on ok at the doctor’s.
We always wanted chocolate too!!
my husband would love this!! and keep us posted on the dr appt. xxoo
thanks girl we will!! and Gary loved this bread too xoxo
This looks unreal!!! I could eat figs all day long.

This looks AMAZING! We have nut allergies in our house. Can sunflower butter be used in place of the almond butter? What are some other decent nut alternatives that can be used?
yes sunflower butter can be used, you can also use pumpkin seed butter and coconut butter if you can tolerate coconut.
Ahhhhh, this needs to get in my belly!!! Amazing. I used to love fig newtons in all their sugary glory, LOL. This loaf looks a million times better in my opinion!
You would love this recipe girl!
