Anyone else watching some March madness? We are. We don’t watch the games 100% but we like to cheer certain teams on. Hopefully this year we have some good games to watch.

And you know what is great to enjoy with friends while watching some basketball??


Okay that might not be everyone’s first pick but we know it’s the majority 😉 Ours too.  Pizza is one classic recipe that we miss from time to time. But not anymore. Nope. We’ve got the pizza that satisfies our cravings. Hopefully yours too!

This pizza crust is easy to make as it requires no yeast. So no waiting around for dough to rise.

Now this pizza is grain-free as well as gluten-free, nut-free, soy-free and can be made dairy-free by using a dairy-free cheese of course.  And if you are looking for a starch-free pizza crust check out this pizza crust of ours.

We added in some starch this time around because we like how starches can provide a lightness to a recipe. The starch we used was tapioca as we like the little bit of chewiness it provides the pizza crust. Arrowroot would probably work too.

The red sauce that we used in this pizza is one that we mentioned in our simple 3 ingredient pizza recipe. A brand that we love. We could have made our own tomato sauce as we know it’s not difficult to do… but to be honest we were lazy. And felt like this store-bought one. Sorry. It happens.

Okay back to the pizza!

We wanted to recreate an old favorite of ours. Keeping it paleo wasn’t a huge concern for us but it just happens to be paleo friendly.

Easy and quick grain-free, gluten-free, nut-free pizza crust made from Plantains!

We played around with what exactly we wanted the base of the pizza crust to be. You know we like using plantains as they are a real ingredient and our bodies like them. So that’s what we went with. But have no fear… we tried it with a raw sweet potato and it worked pretty well too!

Not sure if cauliflower would work in this crust recipe. You can always give it a shot. But we like our carbs… therefore we used plantains.

Delicious. Soft moist chewy pizza crust.

This pizza is super easy to make and does not require a yeast dough. Mainly because we are lazy like that.

This pizza blew us away. Made from just a few simple ingredients and topped with some of our favorites.  We used goat cheese on top as that is a favorite (and again our bodies handle it pretty well).

Seriously this pizza tastes almost like the real thing. Of course it’s not because of the ingredients we use, but hey we are pretty darn proud of it. It fits the pizza bill for us. Those with stomach issues like us you will enjoy this pizza!

Best part is now you can happily enjoy a lovely pizza too using this crust! Really, make your very own pizza with whatever toppings you like!


how to make grain-free nut-free pizza

Thin, soft and chewy pizza crust that is free of gluten, grains, nuts, and beans. Made from simple ingredients to create a delicious and healthy full of flavor homemade pizza! That everyone can enjoy!

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Cook Time: 25 minutes
  • Total Time: 30 minutes


  • 1 whole raw plantain (7oz or 200 grams – after being peeled)
  • 1/4 cup tapioca starch (1oz)
  • 1/2 cup ghee or coconut oil (4oz)
  • 2 tablespoon coconut flour (1/2oz)
  • 2 eggs


  • any tomato sauce of your liking
  • any cheese of your liking – we used goat cheese
  • add any more toppings if you desire


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Peel plantain.
  3. Place all ingredients into food processor (or blender) and blend until well mixed.
  4. May add in sea salt or black pepper if desired. We forgot.
  5. Pour pizza batter onto a silicone baking sheet and spread batter using a spatula into desired shape. We made ours a large rectangle.
  6. Bakes for about 25-30 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and top with toppings.
  8. Slice and enjoy.
  9. Serves 2-3.


Few notes:
1) using a different starch–> you can try using another starch but we are unknown of the final texture
2) using sweet potato instead of plantain –> you can use a raw sweet potato for a little more denser crust
3) using another flour instead of plantains –> you can sub out the plantains for a nut meal, again unknown of the final texture


  • Serving Size: serves 2-3

We can finally enjoy pizza again!!  Yes, even without grains and gluten ( or nuts or beans). And it still tastes amazing.

Ideas for not using anything nut based. Our household can’t have any nuts or coconut, so…. what do you suggest to use? Can I grind up quinoa? for flour and will olive oil work? What are your thoughts? I have been looking for something like this but not having nuts are the issue. My son is highly allergies to peanuts, treenuts, shellfish, fish, sesame, and coconut, so… it limits what I have in our home. Thank you.

you can use olive oil, that is fine.
for the coconut flour part – ya you can use any gluten free flour.

we usually try to get green-yellow ones. You could use black it might just me more dense and sweeter.

I used a fairly ripe plantain and yes, the crust was sweet but still delicious! Will make it again with a greener plantain. I used pesto as my sauce and added chicken and olives! yum!!! thanks for the recipe!!

Piizzzzaaaaaaaa! (Culkin kid from home alone, I say that everytime I eat pizza) Ok, this is a great recipe bc I love coconut flour and love recipes that are a success with it. Its kinda hard to work with, needs lots of moisture I found out the hard way. Will be trying this soon!

So this is clearly my new home.. pizza was amaze-balls!! Used banana..don’t think we have plantains in sa.. is that even possible? Anyway also used half coconut oil and half butter.. it was insanely delicious.. I ate the whole pizza (○_○’) …thank you for saving me**!

Well, just put one of these in the oven on a *metal* baking sheet (I don’t own a silicone one…) I will keep checking it and *fingers crossed* hope that it turns out great despite the slight variation=)

Hi ladies! First time visitor to your blog, looking for a plantain based pizza crust. This was surprising easy and super great!! My crust came out a little greasy – I used a combo of ghee and coconut oil. Perhaps I should have added more coconut flour 🙂 But it was a success none the less! Do you use green plantains or ripe, black plantains or is that a matter of personal taste? I prefer them on the green side since they are less sweet that way.

This was the first time I have used plantain and we loved the pizza! The only problem was it was a little soft in the middle. Do you think I could cut back on the coconut oil?
