If we had to pick our favorite nut it would be a toss up. We adore cashews but pistachios are pretty high up there too.  Really our love affair for pistachios came from this chocolate cake.  Our mouths are watering just thinking about that dessert and this marshmallow one too.

Sorry, wiping our drool as we carry on with the recipe for homemade pistachio butter with chocolate and homemade coconut butter. Do we need to say anymore? Did’t think so.

How to make the most amazing chocolate pistachio coconut butter.

To die for. Yes. It’s that good.

Little history behind this recipe. To be honest it kinda was a mistake. Okay mistake can be a harsh word. Let’s say not what we originally had planned.  We actually wanted to make a pistachio truffle kinda like these pecan truffles. We were so excited. We got shelled pistachios. Came home and began to shell and skin each pistachio.  Whoa. Who knew that would kill our fingers?  Felt like we were cracking all day.

Since the first attempt of making those truffles did not work out well we had to think of another recipe idea to redeem us of this recipe not turning out.

Luckily, friends we discovered homemade nut butter. Add in chocolate. Coconut butter. You got yourself one stellar masterpiece! Party dance.

Now… don’t be jealous. You can make this up for yourself to devour in no time and have a party dance too!

Who knew that blending coconut butter with pistachios and CHOCOLATE could be so decadent.

This definitely is a nut jar that we would happily finish off in a day.

Pistachio chocolate coconut butter? Sounds difficult. Nope. Nada.

All you really need is some pistachios and a food processor that you pray won’t explode when you ask it to puree those little green gems into nut meal like consistency.  The main reason we used pistachio flour instead of whole pistachios is because like we mentioned above our truffle idea did not turn out. So butter was made!

So, if you are looking for a 100% healthy pistachio chocolate butter, make this!  Seriously.  It’s amazing.

The pistachios we used in this recipe were already shelled and peeled. Yes they were roasted. But. Whatever. It is still pretty damn good! You could use raw pistachios.

Oh man, we wish you could smell this butter right now. The aroma it just mouth watering on it’s own. And when you take a spoonful it is like a chocolate explosion in your mouth. Maybe one day someone will invent the ability to smell foods off computers. We can hope. Or maybe that wouldn’t be a good thing as we would want to make every recipe we came across.

And oh yeah there is some nutrition in this bad boy 😉

Did you know that? Pistachios also provide high quantities of essential nutrients: thiamin, Vitamin B6, potassium, and lutein (anti-oxidant for eye health). Great for fiber too.

Here is how to make your own homemade chocolate pistachio coconut butter.

Healthy homemade nut butter made from nutritious pistachios, coconut butter and chocolate. Perfect to eat straight from the jar!

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: makes about 1 1/2 cups of nut butter 1x


  • 1/4 cup coconut butter
  • 1 cup pistachio flour (roasted or unroasted) made from grinding pistachios
  • 3 tablespoons raw cacao (or cocoa)
  • 1 tablespoons fine coconut flakes
  • 10 drops of liquid stevia (or could do honey or maple syrup to taste)


  1. *If you use unroasted shelled pistachios, shell them before grinding in food processor.
  2. We used roasted and salted pistachios, so again if using unsalted you may add in some sea salt to taste.
  3. To make pistachio flour: take whole pistachios (once shelled) place in food processor and blend until it looks like nut meal.
  4. Place pistachio flour and coconut butter into food processor (or Vita-mix blender).
  5. Begin to puree.
  6. Add in chocolate, coconut flakes and stevia (or whatever sweetness you use)
  7. Continue to blend together.
  8. Continue to blend until rich and creamy.
  9. Enjoy by the spoonfuls.

This pistachio butter is delicious eaten with a spoon straight from the jar!

Stupid question; when u say coconut butter you mean…? Not coconut oil, but a coconut butter that you’ve already prepared from another recipe?

Correct. Not coconut oil but coconut butter (with oil and the flesh of coconut) it makes it more creamy like a nut butter. here is a post showing how we make our own. 😉

Well, I’ve made coconut but term pistachio butter, and chocolate versions of each, but never have I thought to combine all three. You girls are geniuses! I’m going to have to try this as soon as I can get my hands on some pistachios!

How much honey would I use in this recipe? Stevia doesn’t sit well with me. :/

you can start with 1 tbsp and increase from there, depending on how sweet you want it.
