renew your gut

by purelytwins

Hello luvs. Happy Tuesday! It’s going to be a beautiful sunny day here in NC and we are excited to get out to enjoy it.

And we wanted to say we apologize for our new #purelyfitlife six pack ab workout and video did not get up til 10pm last night. We had some internet and computer issues. But hopefully everything is taken care of. Thanks for your patience.

Ever since doing our 30 day gut healing journey it opened up our eyes to understanding and taking care of our gut. Since everything starts in the gut it is important to take care of it.  We are not 100% healed yet but we are SOOOO much better now. Our digestion is overall strong (most days) and our skin issues are slowly being figured out. More on that below.

sexy arms purely workout

Yesterday we did our #purelyfitlife workout 1 sexy arms routine. We warmed up with doing a 3 minute plank hold.

Along with ending our workout with 50 push-ups and practiced headstands to continue our #purelyfit #whatsbeautiful goals.

Staying focused and motivated!  Keeping working towards your goals! You will get there.

Lori’s day:

green juice with eggs coconut oil

Started my day with a green juice with banana and eggs. I had one banana with 3 whole eggs and coconut oil. Juice was kale, romaine, cucumber, orange, one carrot and fresh ginger.

sleepy vizsla jax

Had a sleepy puppy on the sofa. Seriously his face expressions kills me.

cod avocado yellow squash

Lunch was cod, white rice, half avocado, yellow summer squash and coconut oil.

duck egg carob ghee muffins

Late afternoon snack was a local duck egg muffin that we used one duck egg mixed with a little carob, psyllium husk and ghee.

male vizsla

Played outside with Jax. Not sleepy anymore.

jax stick

Both us of getting our daily vitamin D.

salmon avocado brussel sprouts

Dinner was grilled salmon with shredded brussel sprouts, mache lettuce, avocado and coconut oil and sea salt.

Michelle’s day:

more breakfast michelle

I started my morning just like Lori but instead of an orange in my juice I did 2 very small peaches. And sprinkled some cardamom on my eggs. Soooo good.

m lunch bowl

Lunch was the same thing as Lori 😉  Mix of cod, rice, avocado, coconut oil and spiralized yellow summer squash.

avocado tuna salad

Dinner was some mache lettuce, avocado, shredded brussel sprouts and tuna. Topped with some coconut oil.  Tried to make the plate look pretty. We admit we are not the best at plate presentation, mainly we get lazy and just throw the food on the plate.

Thoughts on our day:

Lori:  Skin is doing better. Pimples are less intense and some are starting to go away. My acne scars leftover from previous cystic acne are becoming less red.  I have been having good bowel movements too. So making improvements. It has been almost 6 weeks from starting to take vitex and know it takes awhile to start working. I plan to keep taking it as well as maca (which I try to get around 2 tsp a day).  One thing I did notice when I first started taking maca again was that it helped me get my period. Pretty powerful stuff.

Michelle: My face is doing well, no breakouts in a long time. I am still dealing with the red bumps on my arms and eczema on legs. I have been going to the bathroom everyday like Lori which again is a huge improvement for someone like me who suffered from constipation all my life.  My sleep is a lot better. I sleep through most nights! I notice high fiber vegetables due cause me tummy issues so I do my best to limit my amount of those at the moment until my gut is stronger.

blog review-01

Remember we got a new probiotic to try from Renew Life.

ultimate flora probiotic

Well we have been using it for weeks now so feel we are ready to share our true experience with taking them.

What do we think?

We like them a lot. Both of us felt a difference in our digestion when using them.
We took one pill in the morning with breakfast and one before bed. This bottle is high potency probiotics and we like it for when we are extra busy to boost up our healthy flora.

We like to take extra probiotics when traveling or extra stressed. Now we are in maintenance mode and do fine with taking just one pill a day. You have to experiment and see what makes your body happy.

Do we believe probiotics help with digestion?

Yes we do. We feel majority of people would benefit from taking a probiotic to help with building healthy bacteria in the gut and strengthen digestion. Along with eating other fermented foods like sauerkrauts, yogurts, kefirs and kombucha.

We will be adding Renew life to our list of favorite brands to buy.

digest more

Since taking Renew life high potency probiotic and been liking them, when we saw that they make a digestive enzyme we bought it to try it out.  And we have been liking these pills too! We take them before our lunch and dinner meals.

Do you suffer from digestion issues? We have shared our gut healing journey, where we feel taking the time to heal was worth it. Taking high quality products was very important to us during our healing.

Where can you buy these Renew life high potency probiotics?

Twins question: Have you ever tried Renew life products? Do take a probiotic and digestive enzyme?

And a big thanks to the Kitchn for featuring our blondie bars for a low sugar dessert.

till next time,

*disclaimer: We were given Renew life probiotic to review but all the thoughts and opinions are our own.

Gosh those meals look GOOD! Although everything I see that I can’t have right now my mouth starts to water 😉 I definitely think that probiotics make a huge difference. Since I started taking saccharomyces boulardii my skin has changed quite a bit! I’m sure a lot of the foods I have removed have contributed to that though as well. My skin is far less red than it used to be, and the acne is *almost* non-existent (I fear saying that out loud though!). I’m happy to finally see significant improvements!

I stopped taking maca everyday for now to see what all the other supplements I’m taking are doing. Taking too many presents a problem in figuring out what exactly is working. We’re focusing more on gut healing than hormones right now, but I hope to start it again soon; I agree, it is powerful stuff!

I’m also much more regular too 🙂 For so long I thought hot lemon water and cayenne was the only thing that would keep me going, but I was wrong. Good thing, becaue citrus is off my list!

I am SO happy to hear you are both doing well. It takes time, I know that full well. All this work is paying off not only in appearance and body function, but I feel like there is a purpose in all of this. For me, taking a Culinary Nutrition Expert program in the fall will launch me into a journey I have been waiting for. I hope to focus on hormones, gut issues and women’s health while doing the training to enable me to help/teach others. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for all of us!

Hi L&M

Im currently also trying to heal my gut along with hormonal imbalances, and major hair loss. I just saw an endocrinologist and he suggested I might have candida. I would love to know your opinion on eating sweet potatoes if you have candida. I am on a no sugar diet right now, but sweet potatoes really help me calm my sugar cravings.

Thank you and the best of luck on your journey!!

purelytwins May 14, 2013 - 2:47 pm

Melissa, we think eating sweet potatoes are fine to eat. — we love Lauren and she has done some great posts about Candida that we think might be beneficial for you to check out!

I will check it out!

thank you!!! 🙂

I did a lot of research into probiotics, and I have had much success with Natren Bifido Bacterium (Dairy free step 3). It is a transient strand, so it works on the whole digestive system. The company is a non-profit, so they are not in it for the money.

I also found beets helped digestion.

I’m very glad to see your successes with healing the gut, as you always inspire me! I decided to FINALLY commit to healing my own gut, and to help myself with accountability, I’m starting the Whole30 challenge today. Hopefully I will see improvements in my skin and digestion as well. As always, thanks for sharing your journey and what has worked for you.

so happy to hear this Sara!!! we are here cheering you on 🙂

What does vitex do exactly?

That’s awesome that maca is helping regulate ur cycles. When and how do u take it

I’d also love to hear the reasonsg behind ur diet evolutions… LLike why u decided to add in fruit, whiterice and such when u were avoiding ffructose and grains? I think it’s great that u keep tweaking things, but I’dlove to know tthe background and not just ser pics of ur eats too (altho i do enjoy seeing urcreative meals)

Sorry for the typos… My pphone is acting up

purelytwins May 15, 2013 - 7:35 am

vitex can help balance hormones, and maca I usually took in morning and mixed it with green tea.
We are still doing our best to limit the amount of fructose in our diet with just a little fruit but eating things that have little fructose like white rice and plantains.
Great questions we will start to get more specially in those issues here soon!
