Day 13 doing better

by purelytwins

Remember this ourΒ plan to heal our gut.Β Consult your doctor before beginning any program. Adjust to your own body and needs. We have done our own research and have come to these steps to help us in ourΒ journey to heal our stomach issues. Please do your own research before starting anything new. We are not really sure how long we plan to do this program. And over time we might be changing things depending on how our bodies are doing. We plan to share just about everything as we heal, so we apologize now if some things are TMI. We want to be honest as we are using our blog as our journal.
Thank you!!!! Seriously you guys really know how to make a girl feel so special!! I appreciate all the comments and emails about my acne-face update. I love you guys sooooo much!!!

plank-pushup

Michelle: Yesterday (after a good nights sleep) I got up to do some planking and push-ups. Some of Lori’s and my favorite fitness moves. I did 5 minute #plankworkout followed by 25 push-ups. Simple moves yet very effective!

doing-yoga

Lori: I felt like doing some yoga. I felt like my body really needed to be moved and stretched differently. I turned to my favorite yoga dvds from the amazing Tara Stiles. I did her Energizing Strong Flow about 60 minutes long (I only did about 45 minutes as I was short on time). I loved it…I am already excited to do this flow again! I love how Tara just moves you through the flow with ease and makes you feel like you can do anything.

Michelle’s day 13 of healing recap:Β

Well, after going to bed early my day yesterday was better than day 12. My body still seems to be adjusting to the time change, but I am taking it one day at a time, listening to my body and doing better.

Upon waking I was hungry. So I grabbed a grapefruit.

grapefruit

Love my grapefruits! Anyone else?

coffee-banana

Little bit later, I started to slowly feel awake. I enjoyed some black coffee and a banana in the hotel room as I got ready for a busy day with Raw Threads. Β I also took my morning probiotic,Β  fish oil pill, and l-glutamine and had some gelatin.

coconutoil

So happy that my coconut oil survived the trip!

michellesfood

A few of you asked for what I brought with me to CA while I travel. I really did not bring much besides coconut oil, my pills, my peppermint tea and a few cans of wild planet salmon and tuna. When we landed in CA we stopped by Trader Joes and I stocked up on more canned salmon, avocados, sardines, and fruit.

waterbottle

I forgot to bring my Contigo Water bottels πŸ™ so I have been using this water bottle and just refilling. I did very well with my water yesterday! Go me!

michelle-snacks

Just snacked all day long on celery and guacamole.

peppermint-tea

Enjoyed some peppermint tea, as we planned on having an early dinner. Plus my tummy still not feeling the best from traveling, so I kept things simple. Trying to listen to the body and take it easy when I can.

I did remember to take my pre-dinner pills: fish oil, l-glutamine, Β quercetin, licorice, digestive enzyme.

glass-ofwine

Dinner I did not get to take pictures of my meal as the restaurant was really dark. We ate at the Disneyland Hotel restaurant for a nice dinner before our long week really starts!Β I enjoyed some sauteed spinach with with a big piece of broiled salmon and enjoyed some wine.

Michelle Β Day 13 recap –

Bathroom: success, stool was about a stool 2

Energy: ok, nothing great (still getting used to time change and getting used to all the traveling)

Gas: Β no major complaints, a little bloating

Skin: no major improvements

Water intake – 8 cups

Lori’s day 13 of healing recap:

I took my morning probiotic,Β  1/2 tsp cod liver oil/butter blend, and l-glutamine and gelatin.

acorn-squash-egg-breakfast

I mentioned on Facebook the other day how I was excited for breakfast. Anyone else get excited at night for the breakfast the next day?

The main reason why I was so excited besides loving Japanese sweet potatoes, I love acorn squash! I finally bought some and roasted it up. It was delicious (abou 4 oz of acorn squash) along with my usual breakfast eats like sauteed kale, 2 whole eggs, and some broccoli/carrot slow. Topped with turmeric, cinnamon and 1 tbsp coconut oil. SOOOOO good! Even though I adore sweet potatoes it is nice to change things up some.

banana-blueberries

Little bit later I was starting to get a little hungry but did not feel like my juice just yet. I felt like eating something. Banana and frozen blueberries with cinnamon spiked my taste buds.

After my afternoon walk with Jax I was ready for my juice. My juice was swiss chard base – it was HUGE leaf of swiss chard.

juice-swiss-chard

The swiss chard was so beautiful too! Juice was 2 huge stalks of swiss chard, 5 carrots, lemon, ginger, 4 radishes, 1/2 cucumber, freshΒ parsleyΒ and fresh basil. Β Another very green juice.

final-juice

Juice was just under 16oz. Β Love the foam on top.

cauliflower-coconutoil

Late afternoon snack was some steamed cauliflower with a litte bit of sweet potatoes. I was craving some carbs and this bowl hit the spot. Topped it with some nutmeg and 1 tbsp coconut oil. Also enjoyed some veggie pulp crackers.

Little bit later I enjoyed some peppermint tea before going on my nightly walk with Jax.

walking-vizsla

The weather here lately has been really dreary. It’s been cold and rainy, but I still layer up to exercise Jax as rain or shine he needs his exercise.

I am in the hunt to find a cute outer layer for Jax. Any recommendations?

jax-paws

As I got dinner going, Jax is never far away, and he always lets me know that by pawing me.

red-wine

Enjoyed some red wine last night to celebrate good news with Gary’s work.

I Β took my pre-dinner pills: fish oil, l-glutamine, Β quercetin, licorice, digestive enzyme.

grass-fed-burger

Dinner was grass-fed burgers (I enjoyed 1 1/2 burger as I was hungry and craving it), handful of greens, steamed brussel sprouts, steamed zucchini, half avocado, sauerkraut and mustard. Topped my dinner plate off with 1 tbsp coconut oil.

Before bed I did my magnesium oil on my body and cleaned my back with the witch hazel – thyme toner.

Lori: Day 13 recap –

Bathroom: yes! stool was betweenΒ stool 3 and 4

Energy: good

Gas: no major complaints, no extra bloating

Skin: about the same

Water intake – 10 cups (does not include juice)

Overall day 13 was a good day. I was productive with work related things and did some personal training studying. I feel each day I am getting better.

Other news.

Remember theΒ Healthy Hot Energized program we mentioned a few days ago. The program is going very well and today they have more great information that is worth checking out.

This is a must see video from Philip and Casey McCluskey. They share some incredibly interesting and inspiring distinctions. Β The secret, Philip says, is to create and embrace the IDENTITY of whoever you want to be. That’s what he did, and in fact, that’s what everyone who’s successful long term does.Β In the video, Philip shows you how, guiding you through the process, step by step. Pretty interesting things!

More fun stuff:

This yoga sequence from Fit Sugar looks like a great one to try.

Glad you are enjoying our videos, yay!
The identity element is so critical…works a charm as you begin to embody what you focus on, and thinking from the perspective of the identity you want leads to making decisions that the new identity would make. It’s awesome! πŸ™‚

Hi ladies,
I have been following your journey to heal your gut and I hope that you get the results that you are looking for. I just wanted to share something that I have noticed works for me. Prepare for TMI…. I have noticed that I have really great bowel movements (similar to a number 4 on the chart)when I incorporate sweet potatoes into my daily eats. This might not help you guys, but I just thought I would share.

overall we are liking the diet change, we feel our bodies are liking it too, still plan on doing it a little bit longer before we start trying to add certain foods back in. Might still be too soon to tell, hard to say, but both are feeling great. We can discuss our favorite brands on a blog posts here soon as we get asked that a lot.

Hi ladies, amazing job with your lifestyle change, you both seem to be doing well… I have a quick question for you, I’m following a similar diet, the autoimmune protocol paleo diet, and am trying to loose a few pounds (3-5), I work out 5 days a week pretty hard and was wondering what your thoughts are on starches and weight loss? I know neither of you are doing your lifestyle change for weight loss but I thought you might know. At the moment i’m not eating any fruit but have been eating a sweet potato everyday, after my workout, do you think this may be hindering my weight loss?

purelytwins January 17, 2013 - 4:45 pm

thanks Simone! from our research and knowledge we do not feel the sweet potatoes are hindering your weight loss. from our understanding having cards after your workout is the best time. that is what we do as well. so maybe it is something else in diet that might be causing some issues, but following the autoimmune paleo diet we feel overall diet should be good. what kind of workouts do you do? maybe need to do more weights to help build muscle to help with the weight loss.
Marks Daily apple has an interesting article you may find interesting http://www.marksdailyapple.com/dear-mark-should-i-increase-carb-intake-for-weight-loss/#axzz2IGuJKUBt

hope this helps

I do a ton of weights, probably 4 days a week of heavy lifting… I think its my diet, I eat A LOT! I just need to tone down the portions and i’m sure it would solve my problem. thanks for the advice!

It’s great that you’re tracking all of this so you’re able to see your progress step by step. Peppermint tea = my favourite, is the Yogi brand a good version? I’m always looking for ones that have that sweetness of Aveda tea (without the price tag!)

Yesterday was the first time I did your 12 minute plank workout. It rocked!!! Thank you so much! I never sweat, but I started to break a sweat doing this workout πŸ™‚ Yeah…release those toxins!!

All of your talk about equalizers finally prompted me to get them for Christmas. However, I have had them ever since and don’t know how to use them. I lost all of your posts because I did not have them at the time. Can you post the links? Also, can you do more full-body workout videos/printables using the equalizer?

Thanks girls! Keep up the healing!!!

Also, I love using a drop of fennel essential oil on my tongue to helps with digestion. If you want to know more about the brand I use and how to get it, just let me know. I even use the peppermint in place of the extract called for in your amazing thin mint cookies πŸ™‚
