Stop doing this if you want to lose weight

by purelytwins

There are so many fitness and health myths out there. It can be super confusing. What are you suppose to believe?

Even as personal trainers we get lost in the all the ramble out there on what is best, not only for us but for our clients (our purely fit sisters).

Yesterday on Periscope we discussed one fitness myth that could be hurting your weight loss effort.

Are long hours of cardio helping or hurting your weight loss goals?

We are share our personal experience and how we overcame it. How did we know long hours of cardio (over exercising) was hurting us?

It was a hard lesson for us to admit and to overcome.

But we are so happy we did.

Now we do want to mention that we are not bashing running or swimming, etc. We do feel those are good forms of being active.  We do feel there is a time and place for those kinds of exercises.

But when does it become too much? When does it become obsessive? When does it start hurting your health instead of helping it?

One thing that could be ruining your weight loss efforts. You need to stop doing long hours of cardio if you want to lose weight. Click to find out why.

We are so thankful that our bodies started to give us signs that things needed to change.  We needed to stop over exercising because it was hurting our health instead of helping it.

It’s hard to admit that. Everyone tells you to exercise, right? Yes and no. It’s about being smart with exercise. This is what we help our clients with that workout with us daily.

We thought we were doing the right thing with working out 1-2 hours just about every day for years. So don’t feel bad if you are doing the same. Realize it. And focus on reducing your workouts.

Once we started doing more bodyweight and short (intense) workouts our bodies started to change. Our health started to improve. We started to enjoy working out. We started to work out for the right reasons – to help our bodies not to abuse them.

Plus now we have more TIME to live our life. Be with our family. Focus on our dreams. Our business. It’s fantastic. We want you to experience the same thing.

Now we only workout for about 1.5-2 hours a week. And that is what we used to do in one day! Crazy!!!! We are so happy (and proud of ourselves) for stopping that bad habit and are blessed we get to help other ladies stop over exercising so they can reach their fitness goals.

Check out this article for more about how too much jogging is as bad as no exercise at all! We know there are more and more studies being done on this subject. We find it very interesting.  For us, no matter what studies might suggest we know making the change from doing too much cardio and doing shorter workouts changed our bodies (and minds) for the better.

Now this is just one piece of the weight loss puzzle, but it is a big one. More girls need to be aware that long hours of cardio is not the way to go.

We are big believers in keeping this simple.

What are your thoughts? Do you feel that you do too much exercise?

Always stop and listen to your body.

I have heard that is better to short workouts! I like to mix it up some days I workout for 10 minutes or less and some days I do an hour or so:)

L&M,

This is good information that most folks do not think about. As you pointed out, you will get much better results towards building a better looking body through short, high-intensity workouts. It comes back to the old design principle that less is more!!

Thanks Derek! You are right!

I used to over-exercise too. Having two little ones cut down on my possible exercise time and forced me to be more efficient. I’m now doing higher intensity for much, much shorter periods of time. And I feel a lot better for it. 🙂

Awesome, we are the same.

Hi! to my seocnd favorite, set of twins! 🙂 (it would be wrong to say that my sissy and i aren’t my top rank! :P)

Thank you for posting this. I have been researching a LOT lately why i’m having so much difficulty with A. tummy, B. hormones, or lack there of, C. hypothyroidism. I know that my body is SCREAMING tome that my fitness addiction is one of the top culprits. Mostly, because i really can’t give up anymore ‘trigg’er foods. I am planning on scheduling a visit with a functional practitioner ASAP, but had a question for you two… when you realized that you were over-exercising, how did you ween back? I feel like i have this STUPID ‘fear factor’ or mind block! I’ve been trying to tell myself that i’m just giving my body a “hug” by skipping a workout, and have felt less guility about doing less, but still struggle. Do you have any tips on how you reduced without sabotaging myself ?

Ugh I still struggle with this sometimes!! This summer my menstruation appeared for the first time in a couple years…and I was pumped! Unfortunately/fortunately, I also gained a few pounds, and wasn’t rigorously exercising the way I was before. Instead, I just walked most everywhere, biked occasionally, and only hit the gym 1-2x per week. I suppose my body needed to step it back, so I’m trying to continue that…but it’s definitely difficult! I had the habit of working out pretty hard 5-6 days a week, and not doing that is a change and honestly, a struggle! Still working on it:D

It is a struggle, we go through periods of wanting to do more. You can still work out 5-6 days just make sure some of the workouts are not very intense.

Yes it can be hard. It is a mindset shift. This is something we work with our clients on, if you are interested in working with us let us and know we will email you the information. But just know it takes time and being more aware of your thoughts.
