Hey beautiful!

Are you ready to go behind the scenes with us today?  Last time we talked we showed you how we edit photos.

In today’s PluggedIN video we are sharing how we edit our videos using imovie. Plus how we set things up and the equipment we use.

How to edit videos using imovie.

As you will see in the video these are basic editing tips.

If you enjoyed the video, please share with those that need help with editing videos.  Thank you.

We’ve come a long way in how we do videos.

You can see how we got started here.

And we still have a lot to learn, which we find exciting. We have a lot of fun making videos and editing them.

How to edit videos using imovie. How to setup videos. Lighting. Microphones.

Basic video editing tips

1 – Use natural light as much as possible

2 –  Use any camera at first and over time you can invest in a nicer one

3 – Be aware of sound issues – your surroundings. Look into microphones.

We have: (no affiliation)

Rode VideoMic Pro Compact VMP Shotgun Microphone  – we use this one the most

Audio-Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone

Sony ECM-CS10 Tie-Clip-Style Omnidirectional Business Microphone

 Sony WCS999 Wireless Camcorder Microphone

We’ve spent a lot of money on microphones and are still on the look out for better ones.

4 – Have a tripod

5 – imovie is a great place to start with when editing videos. Over time you can invest in nicer editing software or hire someone.

Other equipment we have:

Wedge Foam Acoustic Panels – to help with echo

Fancierstudio 2400 Watt Lighting Kit

Cameras:

Canon Rebel T31

GoPro

Iphonesetups-bloggers-videos

Sometimes our setup isn’t so nice. Cardboard box anyone? haha

For our recipe videos we do them freestyle. And just recently have hired help for some of them. Thank you Cathryn!

Just like our photography we do basic edits, we don’t spend too much time editing. We like it simple.

Key takeaways:

  • Use whatever equipment you have around your house.
  • Keep it simple.
  • Learn as you go. Trial and error.

We hope this has inspired you to action in your business or blog using videos.

Make sure to stay up-to-date with us and never miss a business tip by signing up below.

What are your thoughts on video editing?

We love to hear what you do so make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments so we can all help and learn from each other.

  1. Really enjoying this series!

Can you do a post on financial basics for entrepreneurs? I’d really enjoy learning about how you two decided to make the leap to entrepreneurship – how did you know it was “time”? Did you wait until you knew you could replace your income with your self-employed income? How do you budget for the unpredictable income that goes along with entrepreneurship? How do you weigh saving money (short/long term, retirement, etc) vs investing back into the business? Have there been any surprises (good or bad) along the way? There is so much that must go into making the decision to work for yourself and I’m always curious about how other people do things! Thanks!

  2. I actually use Adobe Premiere to edit! I do like iMovie, but on my antiquated Mac I can only use photos and not film 🙁
