Eczema Update: before and after pics

by purelytwins

This post is way over due, but I wanted to make sure my skin was healing before I share how I am doing.

Because I have shared eczema updates before — mentioning it healed– just to have it come back.

And each time it came back, it was worse!! The end of 2014 was really rough. Each month my skin got worse and worse, spreading all over my body and even on my face.

I was getting scared. Frustrated. Confused. Sad.

I cried a lot. I would wake up in so much pain in the middle of night and could not go back to bed. My skin would be burning. I would scream into my pillow.

I had big open wounds…big ugly red patches. Burning itching skin…all the time!

My eczema started affecting my life. I wasn’t able to workout much for the whole year!! Which was extremely hard as I love it, and I am a personal trainer. I am very blessed to have some amazing clients that supported me all the way. I am very blessed to have a family that never gave up on me.

So how is my eczema doing?

Check out the video to see how my skin is doing and my thoughts on what helped.

As you saw in the video my skin is SOOO much better.

I still wake up having to pinch myself as a few weeks ago it was a completely different story.

I forgot what it was like to not been in pain. What it feels like to have soft skin. What it feels like not to FIGHT to not itch.

What changed ??

Unfortunately, it wasn’t one thing. It was a mix of everything.

As you see in the pictures my skin was pretty bad. All the doctors called it severe. But I am doing much better.

As I mentioned in the video I saw doctor after doctor, and most recently found a new treatment for my skin – light therapy (phototherapy) . It is the number one reason my skin doesn’t itch. Then diet, supplements and lotions are the reason my skin is healing.  Also, I’ve been tackling candida, which is a whole post within itself.

I plan to do a lot of posts about exactly what I did, but remember we all have different reasons for getting eczema and our healing journeys will be different. I have read just about every article and blog post about healing it. I have bought 4 or so books on it, each with their own protocol and none of them worked for me.

I do believe diet is a big part, but also certain lifestyle changes are needed.

If you suffer from eczema or know of someone who does please share this with them. I too once thought I would never be healed, but here I am just about there!

I have a lot of posts coming every Friday sharing how I healed: from blood work to diet to supplements to products to lifestyle changes and more.  And the book I mentioned in the video that I have been following the past month is – Digestive Health with Real Food by Aglaee Jacob, M.S., R.D. It is worth checking out if you have digestive and skin issues like me.

Thank you for letting me share my journey here. I hope my story inspires you to never give up. Keep fighting. Keep trying new things. Stay positive!

HUGS

So happy for you! I suffered from eczema late last year and the feeling is all to familiar to me as well. Thanks so much for sharing your story. Also, sugar is the devil!!! I am so convinced that it is the cause of so many health problems but sadly, I am still slightly addicted. Good luck to all those who are trying to quit sugar…I know that I, personally, need all of the help I can get. xoxo

Yes sugar and I are not friends, which is so hard because I love dessert.

Praise be to God! Oh, Michelle, my heart is so happy for you! I know that feeling of uncontrolled emotion when you have relief from pain! God is so good! Thank the Lord! Thank you for inspiring hope and passing on the positive vibes that healing is possible and will come. I am struggling with pain as you know and am holding on to that idea. I can’t wait to hear about all your methods of healing. You are so strong and have overcome such hardship. God bless you! Thank you for sharing your journey. Funny, I have been feeling better myself by adding more animal based products to my diet. Maybe there is a reason why God created people to rule over animals. Maybe he provided animals to heal people–some animals like domesticated animals to help heal us emotionally and others to heal us physically. I’m just glad you have found and are finding things that are helping. Please continue to pass on your helpful honest info. I thank you for any prayers you have and may send up for me.

Thank you girl, I am thinking of you too. Stay strong. Yes very true about animals and healing. It was opening for me.

Oh my— this is such a wonderful post. I am so happy for you and excited to learn about what made the difference in your eczema journey! What do you think is the root cause? (I’ve had eczema on my hands forever, and I have never seen it go away at all). What different types of doctors did you see and which ones made the most difference (besides the dermatologist for phototherapy?) I remember, way back while lurking, someone asked about phototherapy but you said you hadn’t tried it.

I was also wondering if you attribute the near-year break of hard core working out as the reason you got your period back with consistency. It seems like there could be a link? You look thinner than ever, but maybe the break from strenuous physical activity let your hormones heal?

Looking forward to hearing back from you! So happy you’re getting better!!

Hi!
I just started following you on Pinterest today. I had been searching for recipes that are gluten, dairy, sugar and yeast free. I found your chocolate icing recipe! Can’t wait to try it! My 4 year old daughter has eczema that was getting VERY bad – starting to have open sores. Me and my husband decided it was time to fix this. We have started with her diet. I know a naturopath lady in Georgia who does a saliva test to see if you have food intolerances, allergies, etc – my mother has used her for at least 15 years – she has helped SO much. So we got my daughter tested and found out that she is gluten, dairy, oat, yeast (all vinegar), and refined sugar intolerant. Since changing her diet 3 weeks ago. We are finally starting to see results. If you are interested email me and I will give you the ladies information! I understand your pain and struggle – I have not enjoyed watching my 4 year old go through it.

You are an absolute inspiration! Keep up the amazing work, inside and out, because it’s definitely working and bringing hope to others. ^~^ Also, I read on your post you were fighting off candida. There’s a book out by Doug Kauffman called “The Fungus Link”. His diet suggestions are similar to the diet you and Lori eat, and he mentions ezcama being tied to candida and fungus. If it seems interesting, I hope it could be an additional help! Praying God always bless you 🙂

Thank you! I will check out that book.

OMG girl… I have had eczema since I was a child… but it comes and goes…
I could never figure out a trigger, except mayyyybe stress??
It is MISERABLE and I would itch so bad in my sleep I would wake up with blisters and sores.
HOWEVER… it was NEVER as severe as yours.. OMG
I’m just hurting and itching for you! wow mamma..
that must have been HARD.
Keep these posts going, I’m always trying to figure out what causes different things

purelytwins August 29, 2015 - 9:05 pm

Thanks Danny! It has been the hardest thing I have been through! Hope you find what is causing yours!

Thank you so much for sharing all this wealth of information! I have the EXACT kind of eczema on my legs that you do but not nearly as severe. I too have noticed that positive thinking and deep relaxing breathing with actually, almost instantly cause the itiching to lessen. I always thought it was strange that my eczema would improve whenever I was on vacation. I wasn’t even eating as carefully as I usually do and yet it improved. HAS to be some emotional, psycological connection. It’s so hard though when you are so miserable to relax and think positive. It’s a vicious downward cycle. Keep up the posts and updates! It’so nice to know I”m not alone. So glad to see you’ve found some relief!

Thanks Rachel, you are so right!

My daughter is 3 years okd. She suffers from severe eczema She also has foood allergies to egg nut fish and food colors We are in gluten free dairy free colorant free diet. She doestn consume refine sugat. But still her skin is not heal. We use a lot of cream oinments etc you think we can get in touch to see if you can help us. I am desperate her skin is so red and itchy

purelytwins November 23, 2015 - 10:12 am

Sorry to hear your daughter is having issues. I would look into a vitamin D supplement for kids, I know Lori has liquid kind for Madison. Also make sure she is getting healthy fats into diet like avocado, olive oil, coconut oil. Another supplement I take is borage oil – a from of GLA. I noticed this to be huge in my skin healing – the dryness of them. I am sure they have a liquid form of it out there as I take a supplement. I would look into giving her epson salt baths. They were a life saver for me. It burns at first but eventually the epsom takes away the itch. I would rub extra epsom salt on the bad areas and let it sit a few minutes then rinse with water. I hope al this helps your daughter. She is in my prayers.

Amazing, I suffered from eczema for the last 5 month, it was horrible, so much pain, itch and I cried a lot. Right now I am feeling much better and my skin looks better, but I have scars, I would like to know if theres any lotion or treatment for It. Diet, vitamins and no stress helps a lot.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Every time I read a post from someone that has suffered eczema, It makes me feel I’m not the only one that is passing through this.

Glad you are healed too!!
