With the new year already rolling by, we all have goals and dreams that we want to accomplish! Nothing like starting off the first half of the year feeling more empowered and motivated to change things up in our lives. Especially when it comes to health and fitness.
We were those girls who would over complicate things. Overthink things. Wait… we still do that a little. It’s better. But we catch ourselves overthinking some things. It can be hard not to with all the different things being said on different platforms. It’s confusing. We know.
But the great thing is… it doesn’t have to be.
We are big supporters of taking care of yourself all year long.
We now like to keep things simple around here.
We focus on our long-term health and needs. No short term fixes. Ones that will last a lifetime.
Why doing these 4 tips on how to keep things simple when it comes to health and fitness will change your life.
1) It’s a lifestyle change — not a diet.
Something you’ve heard a million times we are sure but it’s really that simple. Don’t complicate things. Keep your diet simple with real food being the huge chunk of it with wiggle room for some fun. This is our approach we’ve had for several years. Of course ‘healthy’ and ‘what we eat’ has changed over the years as the more we’ve learned about food and our bodies have changed. We learned. We adapted. We experimented. We discovered what real foods work for us.
The more we learn and experiment on ourselves the more our idea of healthy diet evolves.
It’s really up to you. You have the power, the choice to make a difference with your life. No matter what others say or what we even say – it all comes down to YOU. You’re in control. Make the commitment to yourself to start making better lifestyle changes. Not just with food but with everything in life. Have that be your 2014 goal.
2) Strive to be a better person each day.
We all have a little competitive nature in us. Having some healthy competition with yourself is a great way to improve yourself when looking at the bigger picture. Strive to make today even better than your yesterday. Comparing yourself to others, friends, or even family can cause extra stress that you don’t need!! We all have our own body-makeup (genetics) and our way of working out and eating habits so naturally results will vary.
Learn to embrace that YOU are unique and beautiful!
We both have our own personal goals. One goal that we do have in common is improvement in our overall fitness performance. It’s not about being perfect at everything. Nope. Nada. It’s more about finding improvements to make us stronger inside and out. We know that sounds cliche but it’s the truth. We love to challenge and compete to do better than our personal best. In our purely fit life club we are always finding ways to make us stronger mentally and physically.
We get inspired by others, and that’s fine. But we always stay true to ourselves in the process. Because again everyone is unique. Looking at others can be a great source of motivation, we do it, but don’t let that stress you out or make you feel worse about yourself. If it does – stop! Take time to reflect on YOU. Your goals. Learn again to be #purelyyou!
3) Taking a deeper look at yourself.
Take time to reflect and think about why you are wanting to make better choices in your life. Find ways to become the best version of yourself.
We don’t waste time trying to be someone else. We’ve worked really hard and are happy with what we’ve created with our life. We do all this because it’s our passion. We tend to go the extra mile because it means so much to us. We are willing to do things needed to make us better. Believe in yourself and find areas in your life for improvement. Take yourself to that higher level.
4) Be patient.
Again something we are sure you’ve heard a million times. But sometimes you need to hear things over and over so you never forget or give up. We know we’ve said this a lot here on the blog, but things do take time. Some things need extra patience. We admit it’s hard. We struggle with being patient. Definitely not a strong suite of ours. But through the past few years we have seen some goals of ours finally come together for us. Like, how we created our own businesses (owners of online workout club and self published 3 ebooks). We have still have a lot to learn in the business world. We are taking the steps to grow and make improvements in our businesses. And each day we remind ourselves that the best things in life come over time.
Going back to tip #1 of making it a lifestyle, being patient with yourself is important to remember. It takes time to make big changes. Take small ones because they add up to that big change. Focus on changing just one thing. Get it down before moving onto the next big change that you want in your life.
When we focus on the larger picture of it being a new lifestyle, striving to be better each new day, loving yourself for being unique, and being patient things can be viewed as a little bit easier.
At least it has for us.
We have so many dreams and goals that we want to accomplish. We get ahead of ourselves sometimes and can sometimes rush things. We’ve made many mistakes and know we will continue to make them. But, we also have gained so much knowledge. To us that is powerful.
Keeping things simple for us has been a life (and mind) saver.
For the most part we keep our daily eats, daily workouts, daily life habits pretty simple with a little spice every once in awhile to make things interesting.
