Today is Thursday and you know what that means…it’s time for another Purely Talk. We are on Purely Talk #18!! Crazy. Just thinking about all the questions and recipes we have made on purely talk… we are excited for what the future brings… we are working on some more health related ones coming soon.

We are answering numerous comments about why we tend to eat white rice over brown rice, quinoa, etc. Great question.

Why we eat WHITE rice?

You know we would never tell you or force you to eat something you don’t want to it. We just like to share what we do and why.

Just because we eat something does not mean you have to or should. You have to find and experiment with what your body likes.

Eating white rice has been a topic that many of you over the past few months have been asking us. Whenever we show meals of us eating white rice, we get asked all the time… why?

Today we are answering that question – why white rice? Why don’t we eat quinoa, buckwheat, brown rice, etc?

We are here to answer why we like white rice over brown rice.

There are a few reasons why:

  • are bodies do best with it
  • it’s a good quick carb source for us
  • easy for us to digest
  • less irriatating to our gut as we are still healing our gut
  • no bloating
  • gives us energy
  • we just enjoy it

We don’t really believe there are good and bad foods just about finding foods that work with your body and that you ENJOY eating.

In the video we discuss 3 main reasons why we eat white rice.


Again like we mentioned at the end of video – no rules. Always listen to your body.

We hope this helps answers to why we eat white rice over brown rice.

We do feel eating white rice can be healthy for those reasons mentioned above and in video. We do not worry about nutrients we are missing from white rice as long as we get an overall balanced diet in our other eats… we feel everything will balance out.

We don’t have anything against brown rice or quinoa or any other grain/legume/seed we just find that CURRENTLY white rice is providing us with what we need. Who knows maybe in a few months we might be eating something different. But to us that is the FUN part about life. Always learning. Always trying new things. Always being #purelyyou along the way.

Just experiment with having white rice and see how you feel. Really it comes down to personal preference.

Don’t ever feel stuck with your eats. We feel that is when a lot of health or even eating disorders can come into play…when you are afraid of eating a certain food. Do not be afraid of food. It is more about finding YOUR BALANCE.

We all have personal favorites or unique taste for things. So try new things. Break away from your normal pattern IF it is NOT working for you. Otherwise keep on enjoying life. Enjoying the foods you like. :)

    I am glad you guys posted this article. There are a lot of diets out there telling you what foods are “safe” and “ok” and what foods you should avoid. I am slowly learning, however, that everyone’s bodies are DIFFERENT. They have different needs and different intolerances. It’s up to each person to figure out what works for their body and what doesn’t. There are a lot of “healthy” foods out there that are VERY beneficial to one person, but to another person, it may be the very thing that is making them sick! I love white rice personally and I eat it often. :) It is a “safe” food for me.

  2. also white rice has lower levels of arsenic, a known human carcinogen! while the levels might not be high enough to actually increase your risks of developing cancer, i’m always one to reduce my exposures to chemicals!

  3. I’m a quinoa girl more than rice- but otherwise I choose brown over white. I do eat white rice when ordering take out (which is once in a while) but that is about it. I guess I always felt like white rice weighed me down more or gave me that blah feeling- which led me to brown rice which I read to be healthier and sit better in my stomach. Quinoa is my favorite though because it has so many more benefits, particularly protein levels and the fact that it doesn’t leave me feeling weighted down afterwards.

  5. I think that its great that you ladies are able to listen to your bodies and not feel the need to go along with the health craze du jour. I am still in the experimentation stage, but def love me some rice :)

    Rice is such a versatile staple food and is definitely part of my diet for much the same reasons you guys have outlined. One big difference for me is that I love to mix things up a little so quinoa is also a favourite along with good old fashioned mashed potatoes :)

  7. I love all kinds of rice, sometimes I do a blend of a couple different kinds, depending on the dish I am pairing it with.

    white organic rice is easy to digest and it’s a lifesaver for us too! we use it for fuel and sticky rice cakes for the husband. but like you said, ,to each their own. You gotta find out what works best for your body.

    This is so good to know. Everywhere I turn, they say b. I brown rice is better for you. I make it every way I can think of and still think it tastes strange and then don’t eat any. Now I will feel better about my jasmine rice and all the others I truly enjoy!! Thank you for such a great place for information!!
