house update: new paint job

Howdy luvs,

Do you all remember me sharing house remodeling updates with you?

No worries if you don’t remember as it has been FOREVER since I have shared anything. I can hardly remember my last posts with an update on my house ;) It was painting baseboards white if you were wondering — which feels like forever ago.

Since Michelle and I’s parents were just in town a few days ago, we were very productive with them. We’ve such amazing parents who are willing to help in any way that they can. Luckily our mom likes to paint and our dad is very handy. So Gary and I had a nice list of things to do with them around the house.

We do like to do some DIY projects but sometimes you need professionals. Just like with our master bath (which I just realized I never really shared much of the final bathroom, leaving a note to self to do that here soon) and upstairs flooring project, we had our main hallway and stairwell done by professional painters here in the Charlotte area. We had some old textured wall paper in the downstairs half bath, hallway, and stairwell. Which they took down and then repainted everything. I was so happy we finally were able to do get this done.

Here is what everything looked like before hand:

After the first day of taking down the wallpaper and they did some sanding.

So happy to see that wallpaper gone!

Finally getting the rest of the brown baseboards painted white too!!

Goodbye to that weird colored yellow walls. Hard to describe what it really looked like as pictures don’t always do it justice.

Okay now for the after pictures.

Here is what the loft, stairway, downstairs hallway and half bath look like after being painted a shade of grey.

after front door

Jax of course had to approve ;)

after-stairway

I had the stairway get painted one shade darker grey.

pretty after stairs

Difficult to see the color change but it’s very subtle.

AFTERpics

The downstairs hallway, half bath and loft area all got painted the same light grey color since they don’t receive much natural light. I decided to do a light grey.

I have been loving grey lately so that is the theme I went with for the new paint job.

What it looks like now.

Again the pictures don’t do that great of job of really showing the grey color as certain lighting makes it look different.

Before loft (we painted some of the baseboards white but could not reach it all)

after walls more

After

In love with the loft area now. Feels so fresh and clean. Really in love with it all!!

after walls

Especially now that there is no more brown baseboards!!

Now onto the half bath which I am totally in LOVE with.

bathroom before

Before

What the half bath downstairs looked like when we first bought the home (we did change out the toilet, that was a fun DIY project for us)

after half bath

After

Again I kept it very simple since it is a small half bath and does not get a ton of light. I did the light grey as well.

mirror pics

I love using the pop of turquoise with the grey. I also plan on using some yellow for pop color as well.

owl and mirror

Love my owl picture and new mirror from a new store our mom introduced us to called the Hobby Lobby! A very dangerous store, haha

Just what I was visioning for this bathroom.

I just have a few more decorative things for the bathroom before it’s all done.

But that’s all the house updates so far.

We also did more painting ourselves in other rooms that I will share here soon as well as planted clover in the backyard. Slowly but surely it is starting to feel like home here.

I still have a few more decorative items I would like for the home but I am satisfied with how it is all turning out.  I have so many ideas that I have looked at off pinterest. Damn pinterest, haha.

Twins question: Do you like painting? Have you ever changed out a toilet before?

Where do you like to shop for decorative things?

till next time,

xoxo

Lori

  1. It looks great! I have a few housing projects coming up myself. I don’t mind painting at all, just hard to find the time to actually do it. Decor stuff, I love world market!

  2. Looks like a lot of work, but I like the color, even though the photos probably don’t do it justice.

I’ve painted my room a light green before, which was the first time I’ve painted walls. Needless to say, I didn’t do a very good job. Oh well, I still like it :)

The house is looking great! Sort of going through the same thing right now.. I’m so not motivated. I dislike painting, so we hire painters. As for decorating items.. Ikea, Pier 1.. Dept stores and places we go on vacation. Have fun and I look forward to the finished product!

Oh my goodness, you had never heard of Hobby Lobby?! It’s the best! Especially for fall/Christmas decorations. I can never walk in that store without spending money ;). I loooove gray too. We’re about to start some painting (which I hate doing!) to put our house on the market, and I want gray in the master bedroom and bath. So peaceful and bright! It all looks beautiful!

That was quite the DIY paint project. I’m impressed your parents all came over for an extended work party.

Not sure if I would be quite so energetic should my kids call with such a request.
