Hey luvs!!

We have been eating well these past few days, and we are just getting started haha. Love when the parents come to visit, as we always have fun eating and drinking with them ;)

goat kefir chia pudding breakfast

We love breakfast, do you?

On Tuesday, after our green juice, we enjoyed a bowl of homemade goat kefir mixed with chia seeds, coconut oil, cinnamon and bananas.

beet juice

This past week we did enjoy juicing some beets. Just as good as we remember.

berry perfect fit breakfast

Mmm berries, banana, and perfect fit protein mush. Check out our little instagram video making it.

dinner

Cereal with dinner? No?

haha we apparently do

We were busy in the kitchen making some things to enjoy while the parents are in town. We made some plantain bread with figs, raw smores, and lots of cereal, plus some new recipes ;) Oh yay!

dinner outside

The weather has been a bit cooler here, so we took advantage and had dinner outside.

brisket

Avocado, local grass-fed beef brisket (we cooked in slow cooker with some BBQ rub), roasted beets and zucchini, and sautéed spinach. Sooo good.

salted gelato

And dessert featured this sea salt caramel gelato. Michelle remembered many of you saying this flavor was good. It sure has been awhile since we enjoyed some of gelato. AMAZING stuff…worth every bite.

dessert

Especially with some snickerdoodle plantain cake!!

Promise we will share this recipe, as we did not take any real pictures. Oh darn we have to make it again.

cereal for breakfast

Yesterday morning we all enjoyed a lovely cereal buffet for breakfast.

We made…

cinnamon toast crunch

cocoa puffs

two cookie crisp recipes (coming soon to the blog)

plus two other new recipes we are working on

All served with creamy cashew milk that we blended a banana in it. So good. And so easy.

Cereal and cashew banana milk the perfect way to start the day! We all enjoyed three two big bowl fulls.

drinks

Cider and margarita?

Why not, right?

burgers

Enjoyed lunch out at Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar.

YUM! Love how they offer lettuce wraps for your burger. We each enjoyed a buffalo burger.

fig plantain bread

After lunch we ran some errands then we (Lori and I) came home and enjoyed some plantain fig bread.

roosters

We also enjoyed dinner out. We don’t really eat out that much besides when the parents are in town. We tried out a new restaurant called Roosters Kitchen.

Loved the vibe and decor of this place. And loved how they try to get as much local produce as possible!

dinner at roosters

Hanger steak for Michelle and salmon for Lori. We split beets and spinach. Well we shared our dinner plates. Both dinners were beyond amazing. Full of flavor. Cooked perfectly! We also enjoyed a slice of pizza (that our mom ordered).

The food (and wine) was wonderful! We all left with happy full bellies.

raw smores

After our meal out we arrived back at Lori’s house to enjoy some dessert.

Raw smores for dessert! Love!

We have 1 1/2 more days of yummy eats and hanging out with the parents! Cannot wait :)

Well we are busy working on some house things — like painting and hanging a few things. We promise to share pics.

Have a wonderful day friends!

Twins question: What are you doing this weekend? Do you like when your parents come to visit? Anyone try any new restaurants in your local area recently?

How is the weather in your neck of the woods?

till next time,

xoxo

  1. Today’s weather was great! I went on a bike ride with my dad to Alexandria in Virginia. You can read about it on my blog!

I went to a bagel/deli place for lunch today, and it was pretty solid. There’s always a line out the door, so I thought I’d give it a try. Great place for bagels, NY style pizza, and sandwiches.

  2. We always LOVE when parents/family come to visit us! My sister and her boyfriend are visiting in a couple weeks, and then my in-laws are coming a couple weeks after that. We’re really looking forward to it, especially since they live out of state and don’t see them all nearly enough!

The weather has been pretty nice around here lately. It’s still pretty warm during the day, but the mornings and evenings have been cool.

I thought you both lived apart now? Did Michelle move closer to Lori? I see pictures of you both doing things together and working out, and I thought for a period of time you were apart? Did that change?

  4. DAG says:

are you guys starting to be able to tolerate gluten again (with the pizza), or was it a very special pie she ordered?

    • purelytwins says:

Yes from time to time we have gluten and do fine.

      • DAG says:

This gives me hope!!! How long do you think it’ll take before you can enjoy all of the wonderful foods only wheat flour can make again with more regularity?

        • purelytwins says:

probably depends person to person, we honestly don’t really plan on having ‘wheat’ flour again regularly as we like the way we eat now, but it is just nice to know we can have it from time to time in a social setting if needed.

As always, your eats look wonderful! I have never tried Gelato, but it looks really good! I’m definitely going to get that as a special treat for myself asap, if I can find it around here :)… At lunch on Friday, I tried out a Japanese/Chinese restaurant called Edo’s Sushi. I love Asian cuisine, I think that is my all around favorite cuisine! I enjoyed some miso soup, two sushi rolls (an asparagus roll and a california roll), and a cup of hot green tea. I really liked the food and the atmosphere there. The room was dimmly lit with pretty blue light fixtures hanging above each booth, it had a calming affect…That evening, I had a taste for a sweet treat, particularly a chocolate cookie. I found these Enjoy Life Crunchy Double Chocolate cookies that are so good! I thought of you ladies when I thought of putting TAHINI on a cookie! Ya’ll are the ones who inspired me to do that…Chocolate and Tahini pair very well. It was delicious!
The weather here in the Pine Belt has still been pretty warm, too, but not as hot. The mornings & evenings have been nice. I am ready for Fall! I love the Fall! My two favorite seasons are Fall and Spring. What about for ya’ll? Do you ya’ll have a fav season?

Hello! I stumbled across your site several weeks ago and have been an “active” lurker ever since : )

    Everything looks sooo delish!

Please forgive me if you’ve answered this elsewhere, but would bananas (or, perhaps, something else) be an adequate substitute for plantains? You guys seem to really be on a plantain kick lately but they are quite expensive where I live (as there are no ethnic markets anywhere near here..boo!)

Also, when recipes call for protein powder, is there a universal substitute I can use? I know the cinnamon toast crunch has a substitute listed, but, in general, can the coconut flour substitute work for all of your recipes?

Thanks! Keep up the good work.

    • purelytwins says:

Rebecca thank you commenting and blog support ;) Some recipes plantains and bananas could be substituted, you might have to use more starchy (green bananas) as plantains are starchier than bananas. No coconut flour cannot work in all of our recipes duet to the nature of it. Any flour can be used for the protein powders.

      • Rebecca says:

Thanks for the info! I didn’t mean substitute coconut flour for any other flour–I meant substituting coconut flour in place of the *protein* powder (which I cannot have).

So, since you mentioned any flour can be used for the protein powder, I assume coconut flour would be ok? If so, what other adaptations would you suggest I make to the recipes (i.e. increasing liquids, decreasing liquids, etc.)

Thanks! Glad to hear about the bananas–I am never organized enough to have ripened ones on hand anyway! Resistant starch is good for you anyway : ) ha ha

        • purelytwins says:

not sure if coconut flour would work in all our recipes that call of protein powder as coconut flour reacts differently, but you could always try,and since coconut flour absorbs a lot of liquid you probably will need to increase the liquid.
