‘healthier’ baked cheesy fries

Hello friends!

Today think…plantain fries smothered in goat cheese baked till warm and crispy.

We have three words –

Cheesy. Warm. Crispy.

Do we have you excited yet?

Today we are sharing how we made our grain-free cheesy baked plantain fries. These healthy cheesy plantain fries are warm and cheesy.

There is no denying it… we love our plantains.

And now we love them even more. If that is possible.

We already love and enjoy plantain chips.

Now we found two ways to make crispy plantains fries.  Cutting them into fries first gets the plantains more crunchy. Baking the plantain whole then cut into stripes and bake for additional 5 minutes or so provides more softer fries.

Healthy crunchy potato free fries


  • 1 large plantain, peeled
  • 1 heaping tablespoon coconut oil


  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Peel and cut your plantain into thin strips.
  3. Coat in coconut oil and place on baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 35-40 minutes.
  5. Enjoy.
  6. **For softer plantain fries - bake your plantain whole. Coat in coconut oil. Bake for 40 minutes. Remove from oven and very carefully cut into strips. Place back on backing sheet and bake for another 5-10 minutes. Enjoy. Or top with cheese or your favorite topping.


We feel any plantain will work from green to yellow green ones.


Growing up we were never huge cheesy fries fans to begin with, but with using plantains as our base and raw goat cheese is a whole other story. YUMMY. We may be re-thinking that. If you are into more savory kind-of-comfort food you will love this recipe! Folks…. these are just that good!

We don’t eat that much dairy, but every once in awhile we like to enjoy some. We are not really sure yet how our bodies handle dairy, still figuring that out. The dairy we enjoy is goat (or sheep) based as we try to avoid cow dairy as much as possible. We try our best to get raw dairy products but that does not always happen. We also make a big effort to get local goat cheese when available.  As for us personally, we find goat products easier to digest.

If you’re craving something warm and comforting make these cheesy plantain fries.  You’ll save a ton of calories and be completely satisfied!

These are so simple to make too! Plantains make great fries.  Cooked in coconut oil… oh yum.

Plantain cheesy fries — yes please! We’ll take the whole plate. Making them as fries really hit the spot.

We used a raw goats cheese from the store. Shredded and melted nicely on the fries.

  • 1 large plantain, peeled
  • goat cheese (raw or local if possible, or any cheese of your liking), and use as much as you like
  • 1-2 tablespoons coconut oil


  1. Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Peel your plantain.
  3. Coat your plantain in coconut oil. Leave it whole or cut into fries.
  4. Bake for 30-45 minutes.
  5. If baked whole, once done very carefully cut into fries. Coat with a little bit more coconut oil.
  6. Bake again for 15-20 minutes.
  7. Grate your cheese.
  8. Take out of oven and cover in cheese.
  9. Place back in oven to melt the cheese.

Nothing beats warm crunchy plantain fries! Now our newest addiction. Oh plantains how we adore you.

    I caved and bought 2 plantains the other day at the store and some goat cheese (haven’t allowed myself dairy for quite a few months). I still haven’t tried them yet. I think I’ll give them a try this weekend :)

    What is the total cooking time for the parsnips fries if cut up or whole? Confused. Two recipes give two different times? Or am I reading this wrong? Please can you tell me the time for cut and for whole? I would love to try this yummy looking dish! My plantains are yellow/brown.. No good? Thanks ladies

      This recipe is for plantain fries. The times are different because we cut the plantain differently in each one,but overall they are similar recipes.

    I didn’t think you ladies ate dairy. Is goat cheese okay? No lactose? Why does it have to be raw or local?

      Beth – as we said in the post we do not normally eat dairy, but can handle goat from time to time.
