ideas for painting dining room walls

Hello friends!

Well it has been a very long time since I have mentioned anything about my house remodeling projects.

Sorry about that. I told you that I would keep you all in the loop and here I am getting behind. I am finally getting back on track with the house projects.

Well, slowly picking back up with them. Ever since getting Jax things had to be put on hold.

I am starting to paint all the remaining base boards and window frames white like I did with my other baseboards. I will share pictures soon, along with more pictures of the final master bathroom that I never got to finish sharing with you.

Current house projects:

  • finish painting base boards and trim white —> doing this one now when Jax is usually sleeping or late at night
  • finish decorating master bathroom –> still looking for a few more decoration pieces
  • build a fence for the back yard —> this one has already started, more on that soon.
  • continue to organize office –> as it is a mess
  • figure out paint colors for kitchen and dining room

This brings me to my next topic….paint colors.

What color should I paint my dining room?

Here is what it looks like now:

The room gets decent about of natural light.

Eventually the floors will look like our upstairs.

So what do you think?

I am keeping the dark brown look for the furniture at the moment.

I again turn to Pinterest and the internet to help get ideas for paint colors for room.

Here are some ideas I am liking:

really like this color, soft yet has some color to it

like this color scheme

another blue color I like

another take of blue

but also like this color green

maybe this are too bold? should I go softer in color? green family or blue family for paint colors?

thoughts?

  1. we just looked at a house that was painted a little bit lighter of the paint chip 2nd from the left on the first picture and it was SO pretty! Even the real estate agent said it was the nicest color she had seen in a house!

I just painted my kitchen Benjamin Moore’s Woodlawn Blue and its so pretty! I have oak cabinets and it matches nicely with them. It would look so nice with your white trim and wood floors! Another good one is Palladian Blue! They may look a bit light but they are definitely darker once painted. I’m sure whatever you choose will look awesome! Good luck!

  4. Have you heard of shadow striping? Try looking it up . . . I did it in my entryway, and love it! :)

Hmm. I like the robins egg blue type of blue in the last photo :) But I would do it a little bit lighter. The thing with painting is that it always looks darker than the sample swatch, so pick one out you really like and then make a hair lighter.

Those blues are really pretty, but I feel like they look kind of casual for a dining room. They have a very beachy vibe. If you really love the blues and greens, maybe look for lamps vases curtains or other accent pieces, but keep the main walls more neutral. Or, paint one wall the bold color and the others a complementary neutral. Good luck! Paint is so hard to pick!

  7. I love the blue and green color scheme. It is relaxing and inviting. I tend to go for a softer look, but the bright colors are really pretty too.

  8. I think you should go with your gut! Neutrals are safe but bold colors are usually the ones that get complimented :) . I think you need something to contrast the dark furniture. I would buy sample sizes in a few different colors (I know Sherwin Williams sells them and they are always having sales) and paint enough on the wall to be able to get a better idea. Or if you’re not feeling that bold, paint a poster board and tape it to the wall. Can’t wait to see!

Personally, I don’t think blue is a great color for a dining room; plus, it doesn’t look like it would meld well with the color of your furniture. I like red colors for a dining room or tan/beige shades. If it’s between blue and green, I’d go with a shade of green.

But, you’re the one who’s going to have to live with the color and eat there so paint it a color that you’re going to love seeing everyday. :) That’s the most important thing, you know?

isn’t red supposed to stimulate appetite? and maybe good conversation :)

I say you should go for a bold color! I just painted my living room / dining room a bright, sunny yellow and I love it! I really love the blue colors in the photos – I’m actually thinking about painting my kitchen a blue-green color very similar to the color of the truck in the photo. Also, if you get Valspar paint from Lowes, they will replace it with a different color if you don’t like it.
