homemade natural deodorant

I have been meaning to make mine own deodorant for some time. You know…

Just one of those I want to be more natural moments where you make all these promises to yourself that you will be more natural in all things in your life.

Well remember a few weeks ago I got a new natural deodorant from Soap Walla. I have been loving it! And it got me thinking — I could make this myself and use this one as a back up. Because you always need a backup deodorant, right?

After I saw Heidi make it, I knew I could do it. I followed her recipe using lavender oil.

Starts with simple everyday ingredients:

Mix together.

There you have it – easy homemade natural deodorant.

Since it has been so hot lately, my deodorant stays pretty soft, but still gets the job done. I have been using it for a few weeks, and so far think it does okay. I am not quite sold on it yet, but do like the idea. I look forward in experimenting with making homemade deodorant some more. Thinking about trying this homemade deodorant bar next.

If you are not up to making your own deodorant, I really do like Soap Walla deodorant cream. All the store bought brands did nothing for me.

Other natural deodorants that I have come across (have not tried any) that look pretty good:

Kasia Pure-odorant Deodorant (a blog reader told us about this one) looks good as it has aloe and hemp oil!

Funk Butter Natural Deodorant  – just love the name – has baking soda and Kaolin clay.

Thanks for joining me in the kitchen making non-kitchen goodies. haha

Have  a great day,

Michelle

I’ve been using this for nearly 3 years now and absolutely love it! Compared to the natural deodorant you find in the store it doesn’t even compare. When you sweat you don’t get that nasty deodorant-funk smell, either. I will never use anything else! :) Lavender has natural anti-perspirant properties as do a few other essential oils, like clove. I like to switch it up and use that scent in the winter.

Those are the exact ingredients in the deodorant (Pit Putty) I use from an online company called Bubble And Bee (www.bubbleandbee.com), which I LOVE.

I’m tempted to try and make my own because it’s so much cheaper, but hers all smell SO GOOD, and it’s so convenient and easy to use in the tube. But I’m keeping this in my “must do soon” mental pile. :)

  3. Hi Michelle,

I have been thinking about making my own deodorant too. Since I didn’t get to it, I bought that Alum deodorant that some health stores sell. It’s pretty weird actually and stings a little. I am actually not sure if it’s 100% safe to use, even though they say it’s completely natural. I’m hoping to get other people’s opinion on this.

I use and really love Tom’s deodorant. Some people seem to not like it but it works so well for me and I feel great about using it.

Awesome! Glad you tried it! It’s worth a try for sure. I think this is one of those things that it works for some and not so much for others. One thing I love about the homemade is that there’s no stink — either with funky fragrance or sweat.

  9. Homemade deodorant is the BEST! I’ve been using it for almost a year, and I swear it’s been one of the best investments I’ve made in my health. I used to have to buy the “clinical strength” stuff from the drug stores, and nothing worked…I found a recipe on the old Bonzai Aphrodite blog, and I haven’t looked back!

I’ll definitely have to try this out. I’m using Tom’s right now and it’s not bad but I wish it was stronger. It looks like it be much cheaper to make too!

I was wondering, maybe I missed it. :) But how much of each do you put in? Thank you for sharing your finds!
