Hello friends! Happy Sunday!
Glad everyone enjoyed our video where we discussed our thoughts on does fruit make your fat. Loved the discussion and comments from all of you, looks like we all love our fruit.
But many of you asked us to clarify the topic of fat and sugar causing acne.
Today we are expanding on what we meant by that since we had received a few questions about it.
Here is a video of us discussing fat and sugar causing skin problems for some.
As we mentioned in the video, this might not be the reason for acne for everyone. Just something we came across and wanted to just share just in case it could help someone out. Also, remember people with good digestion and skin this issue might not relate to you. Everyone is different, and food reacts differently in everyone.
Please share your thoughts on food and acne!

My request: a discussion on how to discover your personal magic ratio of carbs/protein/fat for the leanest body coupled with topics like calorie consumption, food combining, and timing. Thanks! Love the helpful info you share!
Sorry for duplicate post…thought the first wasn’t accepted
I totally agree with the fat+sugar combination observation. After eating something with a significant sugar AND fat content, I can feel the reaction immediately in my skin.
Very interesting video! Thanks for sharing!

All I know that whatever is on your face, directly reflects that which is in your gut. So acne face = unhealthy gut. Same for most skin issues. Gut health is everything.

I completely agree with the acne = unhealthy gut comment in regards to myself. However, I think the bigger peice of the puzzle is systemic inflammation, of which acne is a by-product. For many, digestive distress, “leaky gut”, undiagnosed food intolerances/allergies, etc. are directly related to (and lead to) systemic inflammation. This is an immune response, which then created metabolic disturance and negatively impacts insulin levels. This is where the sugar/fat peice might come in. However, for some people, sugar/fat is not the direct cause…there may be other food choices, some seemingly healthy, that have an even larger impact. I’ve drastically improved my skin after eliminating gluten and eggs…sugar-free did not cut it.
Love you ladies! I’m excited to see what comes out of your next challenge, you are gorgeous to me no matter what, breakout or not
I want to look up more on this topic!!

I never really have skin problems, but can say that when I’m cautious of how much sugar I eat I notice a difference in just overall everything. My energy – my complexion – my (ahem) sex drive – bloating – so many different things. Always great to be mindful of what we are putting into our bodies because the more cautious we are, the more our bodies appreciate us. Love hearing you ladies’ thoughts…as always!

I never EVER had any skin problems until I went raw…Before that I was eating everything, but I always avoided fat and sugar(not fruit, but processed sugar). When I went raw,i started eating A LOT of raw desserts(sugar+fat),because I thought this is very healthy, and suddenly out of nowhere, my skin was full of acnes. I was raw for 1year, now I’m back to cooked foods(vegan diet),and I avoid fat+sugar together…of course every now and then I will have something sweet, because I have a sweet tooth, but not too much. I’m also not feeling so good,if I eat to much sugar+fat, I have less energy and problems with gasses. It is a very bad combo! When I eat something salty with fat(without sugar), I don’t have those problems. So fat itself it’s fine for me.
Thanks for your post,it is a great topic. Love your blog!

1. So to clarify, if you’re trying to avoid sugar + fats, wouldn’t avo (fat) + stevia (sugar) be wrong?
2.And you just made strawberry/lime (sugar) + cashews (fat). Isn’t that wrong then as well? Or was that one of your treat times? Everyone needs those!!
3. What about tomatoes/peppers? Are they “sugar” or no?
OR am I wrong and still getting things a bit mixed up?
**Not trying to be critical at all, just wanting to make sure I’m understanding the principle properly. Thank you ladies!
xx
Katie – well we do not look at stevia as a sugar like other sugars since has zero glycemic index. You will have to make your own decision on that. Second, the recipe we shared today was something we enjoyed weeks ago, and yes it is a treat we have from time to time. We never said we were perfect, just something we were going to try to be better at
And we did mention in the video about peppers and all, it will have to be personal choice. We are not viewing them as sweet fruit, but a savory fruit.
Hope this helps. Again you will have to make your own decisions on what you are comfortable with.
Hi Girls! I completely agree with you about high sugar / high glycemic foods causing acne. I have been struggling with severe adult acne for over a year (Im 27). After going to 2 dermatologists who prescribed me antibiotics of the same family as one that has caused me to have seizures in the past, I decided to try to fix it myself. I completely went off all prescription meds and topicals. I started taking a ton of supplements, oil cleansing method, steaming, etc. This worked for a while until my hormones went crazy because I also went off of birth control. I decided to go on the Paleo diet because I was having out of control cravings for chocolate and I heard that some people had improved their acne on the Paleo diet. After eating a bunch of fruit smoothies during the first week, I had the second worst breakout of my life. Thats when I did some research and found the link between insulin and acne, which apparently also aggravates unbalanced hormones. I ended up pretty much becoming obsessed with researching proper diet / acne remedies online which was taking over my life so I decided to suck it up and pay the $500 to see a ND and have food allergy testing. The ND told me to eat every type of food for the allergy testing. This caused the worst breakout of my life and I am still trying to get over it. Anyways I am back to my low sugar zero grain diet and waiting for my test results. I know this is long but as I’m sure you know, most people don’t understand the struggles of adult acne and the willingness to try anything to get rid of it. Thank you both for your courage to write about it and about your experiments with alternative remedies and diets. My question for you is where did you find a list of low glycemic index foods? I can’t seem to find a consistent list. Also, my biggest downfall is chocolate – what ways have you found to incorporate chocolate into a low glycemic diet? And lastly, did your ND help you? Mine seems to think my acne is liver related and that I have Candida. There seems to be a ton of controversy concerning Candida, so I really don’t know what to believe at this point. Thanks for reading and for your blog!
