face update – how is my acne doing + face routine

Hello luvs,

Today I am updating you on my progress with getting rid of my acne.

My journey has been a long one but I am a fighter and will continue to get through this battle. My acne does not control me anymore!

If you are suffering from face issues, remember you are not alone, take one day at a time and keep going. That is what I am doing. Sure it can be hard, but sometimes life’s lessons are hard but worth it in the end.

You know it was a very difficult decision for me to start taking medication for my face. But so far the medicine is working. The antibiotic is really helping with my inflammation and has calmed my face down, the pimples are less intense.

I still get a few pimples, but definitely  less intense. It is definitely a slow progress but one that I am not giving up on, and neither should you :)

I did a video explaining more what I am doing and how I am doing.

Thanks again for all the support about my journey to acne free skin. I will continue to update on progress!

Here are some quotes that I found to really help me when I feel like I can’t go on.

Remember don’t ever give up!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Tuesday and that these quotes inspire you today.

It is a rainy day here today but I am going to make the most of it!
Again I will continue to share my struggles and successes with my acne and my face, I know I will get there!

This little guy helps to keep a smile on my face.

xoxo
Lori

I am so glad you found products that are helping you! Eminence is a fantastic company with great products that are organic, and biodynamically grown. The best facials I have ever had were Eminence.
With your antibiotic use, are you taking an excellent probiotic, such as Dr. Ohhira’s?

Remember that you are beautiful, inside and out, and go give that puppy a cuddle. :)

  4. I love how honest you’ve been about your acne journey. I never had skin issues before, but since getting pregnant my skin has gone nutso- even a few breakouts have gotten me down from time to time. The condition of your skin can absolutely affect your self-esteem. I’m glad that you’ve found something that is working for you!

  6. Hi Lori,

I have struggled with acne my entire life. (Thanks Grammy and your hereditary cystic acne.) I was on every single drug possible for acne in my teen years and 20′s including Accutane. As I prepared for my wedding at age 27, my dermatologist gave me Clindamycin Pledget’s and NOTHING has worked as well to reduce my cysts. Now at 34, I only use them every once in a while. I have started using andalou naturals for cleanser/moisturizer and that works very well too. (I also use witch hazel for “toner” after cleansing.) I like these because they are paraben, phalate and gluten free.

(Here is a link to the pledgets: http://www.versapharm.com/product_family.php?pf=19)

Acne truly sucks. I completely understand how it can hurt emotionally to have the issues on the outside. Remember that you are beautiful on the inside and you inspire so many people.

    Take care!

I follow a lot of your acne updates because I have similar problems that just.won’t.go.away… so when I saw you had a new video I decided to come here to tell you about this product I’ve been using that is the VERY FIRST product for me that actually works ! It’s Eminence, which is ironically what you are talking about here!!! I’m so so glad that you are highlighting it because you obviously have a greater reach than I do, but I LOVE it and though it doesn’t clear up my breakouts completely, or prevent them, it calms my faces, reduces any swelling and redness, and makes the complexion so even and manageable that I am finally able to go without makeup. So so happy you found it too. :)

Thanks for the updates! I love your info …

  8. Lori! I can’t watch your video right now (I’m at work), but I’m SO happy you are finally seeing some progress. I’m about to post an update as well soon, we are so on the same page yet again!

I have found a few products that have been working well so far that I’ll be sharing, as my face has been quite good for a number of days in a row which has been unheard of for a very long time! I still have a lot of scarring, which I need to find solutions for, but I seem to be on the right track :)

It’s so hard to even say that things are getting better, I just don’t want to jinx things!

Sending BIG hugs your way! You are doing awesome <3

You are looking great so far in the improvements Lori!
I don’t know if you know, but I struggled a ton with horrible skin and I had really bad issues with acne for a long time. I took the same medication you are taking and it definitely helps with the inflammation. I know its not fun to take the medication, especially being health conscience, but it definitely improves it.
Sometimes medication and non natural things just work the best, just how it is hah.
I should really post about my skin journey, because mine is a HUGE improvement. I’m a little nervous to be so vulnerable though about it. With all the positivity you receive it makes it seem a little easier.
Keep it up! Your skin will improve as long as you work on it.
Keep up the positive attitude as well, that’s something I didn’t do too much and got in a bad depression. Attitude and positive energy is everything and will only help in the progress!
Sorry about this super long comment!

  11. I can totally relate to this post as I am currently struggling with really bad acne! I have tried a lot in terms of diet tweaks but I think I need to turn back to the more prescribed face cream route. I used to use some prescription face washes but stopped for a while! I found this video super helpful so thank you for sharing your experience! Good luck with it!

You’re veery brave for sharing, and I’m so happy to hear you’re finding a path that seems to be working Lori! I use dr. bronners but just on my body and as for my face I wash once a day, ever since you said that in your first face post, and have found it works so well for me without drying my face out. And I just use plain coconut oil after as a moisturizer and will never use anything else, I love it so much and it works so well with my skin.

  16. oh man, i tried differin in high school and had to stop bc it made my face so bad! the only thing that worked for me was taking 333mg erythromycin when i was 18. my acne subsided in my early 20s but i do get some breakouts every now and then now depending on how much i stress!

i use all eminence products! i have the citrus exfoliating wash, lime refresh tonique and the rosehip whip moisturizer :) it lasts forever! you are saying it right too ;) i use a clarisonic only at night time every other night and i totally agree about it being too much sometimes! i think it is just the right amount of exfoliation for sensitive skin several nights weekly. i am so happy to hear you are finding things that are working yay! :)

Lori, which antibiotic are you taking? And about your diet, are you staying away from dairy, or what did you mean about being careful with your diet? I LOVE Eminence!!! It is SUCH a good choice for your skin, dear! I use it as well and absolutely love it! I have both very sensitive skin and a history of cystic acne, so I know exactly your frustrations. I’ve gone on a VERY similar journey with a raw/vegan diet and have realized it is not the ‘miracle’ that some people have experienced. <3 thank you so much for sharing your journey!

  20. Kristin Johnson says:

Thanks for the great info in your video. After hearing you praise Eminence, and reading other posts about how wonderful it is, I ordered the moisturizer and Vitamin C serum, I can’t wait to receive them! Also, I would love for you to record and post your nightly routine with the oil mixture. One thing I like to do is make my own exfoliant out of cornmeal mixed with facial cleanser. You can grind it as fine as you want and it’s inexpensive.

  21. I’m glad to hear that things have been clearing up for you, Lori! I still struggle with my acne from time to time, but find that things look MUCH better when I’m eating lots of healthy fats in my diet. Thanks for sharing your routine with us :D

    Hi Lori!

Not sure how much help this will be, but I have in my library YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT from Dr. Gillian McKeith, she pretty much goes in depth on how our body’s appearance is based on how healthy we are on the inside.

There’s an acne section that says “pimples point to congestion or imbalances,” and she what it means if certain body parts are affected (ex: she states if you get pimples on forehead, it means that the body part that’s affected is the intestinal area, and then she lists what natural solutions you can take)

Hope this helps! Let me know if you want me to email you the page, I can scan and send :) (sorry for the novel comment lol)

    Best!
    Martha

    Hello, first time commenter–
want to recommend the prescription pill flutamide. You have probably read about it in your research. It is the farthest thing from a natural solution, but it is the only thing that worked for me. I had the same horrible, deep cystic acne that made me depressed and unable to leave the house at times. Diet change, saw palmetto, etc did not work. It is actually a fairly safe medication in contrast to some studies you might find. Look up all of the studies on it you can. Very few cases of liver abnormalities have made some drs wary of prescribing it, but there are some very long term studies (10 years) of people who have taken it with no adverse effects. I have taken it for about three years now, get liver checks every 6 months now, (you get them more frequently in the beginning) and everything is normal and my acne is gone completely. I know this might not be for you, but I just felt compelled to recommend it. I really feel it saved my life, as the acne had gotten me so very depressed. You will need to speak to an endocrinologist about getting it, most derms are unfortunately clueless about this med. Something to look into, anyway. I really appreciate you sharing your struggles here; it is very selfless of you to share about this issue so publicly.

I have suffered from acne since I was a young teenager. In March of this year I began the acne.org regimine. My face is finally clear! I’ve tried many other treatments and things would sometimes work for a short period, but my face looks completely different now! I’m also glad that I’m no longer adding more scars to my face. I decided to try acne.org after watching the youtube video by mamichula, whose sister was brave enough to post a video of her journey. goodluck!
