in our new HOME!!!
Last night Gary and I stayed over at our new home for the first time and I made ourselves our very first dinner in my new kitchen!
The hardest thing about cooking the dinner was finding everything to cook with like a skillet, forks, etc.
But I managed to find things to cook with and served us a lovely home cooked meal. Served with a margarita
The kitchen is a little messy at the moment, filled with boxes and a sofa!
Now how often do you see a sofa in a kitchen? I am assuming not very often. haha
After dinner last night we got to work.
We started to take things upstairs, organized some things, and did a lot of dusting. Everything was covered in dust from the construction we did on the second level.
We made a decent dent in our unpacking and cleaning last night till about 11pm and I called it quits.
We still have a lot to do before I feel ‘at home’.
We mainly focused on cleaning up our dining room. Made some progress.
Still have a sofa in my kitchen this morning but Gary is promising me that it will be out by the end of the day! I can’t wait to start organizing my new kitchen and start creating yummy recipes!
I even started to finally open some WEDDING GIFTS! It was like Christmas! Gary was laughing at me because I was so happy about all the new kitchen items I was getting. I kinda forgot everything that I had put on the wedding registry. Still have more gifts to open today which I am so excited about!
Plus Gary and I are planning on heading to IKEA for some house purchases like new mirrors for our new bathroom. I love IKEA…Gary again gets a kick out of me liking that store so much. Really I just love to look at everything.
Twins question: What about you, do you like IKEA? Do you have a store that you like going to just to LOOK at things? Do you remember your first dinner in your first house? And for married couples and newlyweds do you remember your first dinner as a couple?
till next time,
xoxo
Lori

I love love love IKEA. I still live at home with my parents (since the rental market is crazy competitive here), but I love to go there and just imagine the things I would buy and how I would style my own house.

I’m so happy for the both you…being able to finally start to settle into your new home! It’s a process, I know, but you seem to be enjoying the ride which is the most important part! Have a blasty at IKEA! Would you believe I never stepped foot in one? Shock. I know.

How fun, I actually adore organizing and setting up a new home! And I’m a huge IKEA fan and never miss an excuse to go, so many fun little accessories.
The first house we bought was in Florida and I remember the first meal while everything was a mess!
oh yay! i’m so happy for you! unpacking is a tough job, but kinda exciting at the same time! Congrats!
GAHHHH so exciting!!!!!!!! congrats ladies! so much excitement to come from your new home
lol about the sofa in the kitchen! as you know, i adore ikea! i have built many many things from there so i feel like an old pro haha. our last kitchen was entirely made of ikea cabinets/appliances etc so i’m familiar with their system
our first dinner as a married couple was in san juan, PR and it was sushi at 10pm since the airline didn’t feed us a thing on our 7 hour flight?! crazy. we were desperate, hungry and it was open so we ate there! thankfully it was pretty tasty! good luck unpacking!

This post gave me chills! I am so happy for the two of you! I remember the first meal Tony and I had on our own. We had take out from Applebee’s and you would have thought it was the most amazing meal ever from the feeling it left us with when we ate in our new apartment all alone. We were exhausted from moving (hence the crappy takeout), but the memory of that moment is still so strong for us. I with you two all the happiness in the world!

Lori, it’s sooo exciting that you and Gary have a new house to decorate and a new kitchen to play in. Cant wait to see more pics of the place as you get settled. xo

IKEA is great – we went there a lot when we were young and fiscally challenged. 25 years later, I realized there are some things you should invest in. Most of us keep furniture a really long time. Use IKEA for temp furniture. Their kitchen stuff has a longer shelf life.
My favorite dinner was when we moved from our condo to our first house with our 2 very young children. I wanted to be there so badly, we moved in with no furniture, ate take out and slept on the floor. one of the best days of my life.
Our first dinner as a couple I cooked in his apartment. He wasnt’ home yet, but there was classical msuic playing in the kitchen, and the table was beautifully set for 2. He was so thoughtful. a keeper – still is after all these years.
Sooo exciting!! SO happy for you guys

wheeeee! congrats!
i have love/hate with ikea. things always look so much better in the catalog than they do in store or in my home.
and their meatballs are so weird. but my friend mike directed a whole webseries for them that was kinda cool:

I may be an anomaly, but I absolutely hate IKEA. That doesn’t stop me from shopping there when I absolutely need something, but I refuse to go there on a weekend. I’ve actually taken off work to go to IKEA because the weekend crowd stresses me out so much. I feel like a lab rat, winding my way through the obstacles of furniture and stupid people trying to find the cheese at the end of the maze. IKEA furniture got me through college and it will help me get my next apartment kick-started, but I really look forward to investing in some permanent pieces. And maybe never having to go into IKEA again…
Congratulations to the two of you on your new digs! I’ve loved reading all of the updates, especially the bathroom ones. It seems to be coming along nicely and I can’t wait to see the finished product.
Ahh so much moving! I’m moving myself and so are my parents.
